SUMMARY: The cataloguer is responsible for the in-depth evaluation and accurate description of fine timepieces, including antique pocket watches, vintage wristwatches, and high-end modern watches. We are looking for ambitious, detail-oriented candidates with strong business ethics, a passion for horology, and excellent organizational skills.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conduct detailed assessments of vintage and modern wristwatches, including:
Evaluating overall condition
Opening all types of watch cases properly
Removing and installing watch bracelets
Determining the originality of dials and other components
Create accurate, engaging, and grammatically correct catalog descriptions
Research and verify production details, technical specifications (movements, case materials, model variations, production dates)
Assist prospective bidders with inquiries regarding lots
Review watch images for catalog accuracy and presentation
Travel for auctions may be required
Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Minimum 5+ years of experience as a watch dealer or within a major auction house specializing in fine timepieces
Experience with antique pocket watches is a plus
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Strong knowledge of horological terminology and watch construction
Excellent grammar, writing, and typing skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
Ability to multitask with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
Customer-service oriented with a positive attitude
Strong communication and public speaking skills are a plus
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative team setting
