Category Manager-Greenhouse - Start Immediately

The Category Manager-Greenhouse is responsible for the strategic planning, procurement, inventory management, pricing, promotion, and overall optimization of the assigned product category. The category manager plays a crucial role in maximizing sales, profitability, and customer satisfaction within the assigned product category by effectively managing all aspects of its lifecycle within the distribution company.

Compensation Data: Exempt salary based on experience.

Travel: Approximately 15% (Domestic)

Location: 100% Remote, M-F, generally 8-5 with some flex on hours.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Conducts market research and analysis to understand trends, customer preferences, and competitive landscape within assigned category.
2. Negotiates contracts and maintains relationships with suppliers to ensure a reliable and cost-effective supply of products.
3. Determines pricing strategies based on market dynamics, cost analysis, and competitive positioning to maximize profitability.
4. Collaborates with Marketing to develop promotional campaigns and marketing strategies to increase sales and visibility of products in the assigned category.
5. Selects and curates the assortment of products within the category, considering factors such as customer demand, profitability, and market trends.
6. Analyzes sales data, key performance indicators (KPIs), and financial metrics to evaluate the category's performance and identify areas for improvement.
7. Collaborates with sales, marketing, finance, purchasing, and operations to align category strategies with overall business objectives. Provides direction and support to the BFG Marketing Department and the BFG Technical Team.

What you will need to succeed:

Education & Qualifications:

· A bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, business, or horticulture business or a related area of academic study is preferred.

· A minimum of five years of product/category management experience with shared responsibility for P&L. Equivalent industry experience and other education/training may be substituted.

Competencies:

· Understanding of the greenhouse markets, including pricing trends, and the competitive structure of the market.

· Ideally located within commuting distance of a BFG facility, however, the job can be performed remotely with additional travel.

· Must possess demonstrated leadership ability in a matrixed organization and the ability to work effectively in a fast-moving environment.

· Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.

· Full-line profit loss experience for a specified market segment. Distribution experience preferred.

· Must be a strategic thinker with excellent analytical skills and the ability to build relationships inside and outside of the company.

· Computer Skills: Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook), and ERP experience or understanding of ERP System(s).

· In-depth negotiation experience -- ability to lead in negotiating team as well as to coach those who negotiate on behalf of product line.

· Ability to understand customer needs & their point of view.

· Must maintain high standards of integrity and ethical conduct in accordance with company policies and values.
