Job Overview
A leading healthcare organization is seeking experienced Cath Lab Technologists to join its Cardiac Catheterization team in Peoria, Illinois.
The Cath Lab Technologist will assist physicians with diagnostic and interventional cardiac and vascular procedures using advanced radiologic imaging and physiologic monitoring equipment. This hands-on role includes scrubbing procedures, maintaining sterile technique, operating fluoroscopic and angiographic equipment, monitoring cardiovascular status, and supporting patients throughout their procedures.
The ideal candidate will be an ARRT-registered Radiologic Technologist with at least one year of experience and a strong interest in cardiovascular imaging and interventional procedures.
Responsibilities
Assist physicians with diagnostic and interventional cardiac and vascular procedures
Perform cine angiography, digital subtraction angiography, fluoroscopy, and other specialized radiologic procedures
Function as a scrub technologist during catheterization procedures
Prepare sterile instrument tables and procedural supplies
Pass catheters, guidewires, instruments, and other sterile equipment to physicians
Anticipate physician needs while maintaining sterile technique throughout procedures
Prepare and position patients for cardiac and vascular procedures
Prepare catheter insertion sites and assist with patient transfer and positioning devices
Explain procedures to patients and help reduce anxiety before and during treatment
Review patient records and laboratory results prior to procedures
Complete required procedural documentation and maintain accurate patient records
Operate advanced radiologic equipment, including:
Cine angiography systems
Digital subtraction imaging equipment
High-speed angiography systems
Biplane imaging systems
Power injectors
Fluoroscopic equipment
Select and adjust appropriate technical factors based on patient size, condition, and clinical indication
Follow established radiation-safety procedures and minimize unnecessary radiation exposure
Transfer and archive images accurately within the cardiac PACS
Ensure current and previous imaging studies are correctly stored in the patient record
Monitor patients' cardiovascular and pulmonary status during procedures
Recognize arrhythmias, heart blocks, and other significant physiologic changes
Alert physicians promptly to abnormal monitoring findings
Calculate hemodynamic measurements for physician interpretation
Perform equipment checks and report malfunctions promptly
Assist with room turnover, equipment cleanup, waste disposal, and supply replenishment
Participate in department meetings, education, competencies, and quality-improvement activities
Complete required monthly on-call coverage, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
Qualifications
Required
Graduate of an approved Radiologic Technology program
ARRT registration in Radiography
Illinois Emergency Management Agency licensure or ability to obtain required IEMA credentials
Current CPR/BLS certification
Minimum of one year of relevant Radiologic Technologist or special-procedures experience
Knowledge of diagnostic radiology, fluoroscopy, and radiation safety
Ability to maintain sterile technique during invasive procedures
Strong patient-positioning and imaging skills
Ability to recognize basic cardiovascular rhythm and physiologic changes
Strong communication, critical-thinking, and patient-care skills
Ability to participate in required on-call coverage
Preferred
Previous Cardiac Cath Lab experience
Previous interventional radiology or special-procedures experience
Experience with hemodynamic calculations and cardiovascular monitoring
Current Illinois IEMA licensure upon application
