Full-time

Description

At Harbor’s Edge, excellence is our standard. Located along the picturesque Elizabeth River in Norfolk, our five-star, resort-style Continuing Care Retirement Community provides a full continuum of care in a setting defined by elegance, engagement, and community.

Recognized as a 2025 “Best” Senior Living Community by U.S. News & World Report, we are proud to foster a culture where team members are valued, supported, and empowered to grow. Our employees are essential to our success, and we are committed to maintaining a workplace that reflects the same quality and care we provide to our residents.

We are seeking a qualified, full-time CDL Driver to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in senior living environments - including long-term care, assisted living, or memory support - and a strong commitment to serving older adults.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safely transport residents to scheduled events on time, demonstrating courtesy and respect.
  • Confirm transportation schedules with Activity and Resident Life staff, including date, time, type of activity, location, participating residents, and directions.
  • Assist residents with boarding, exiting, seating, or other physical support as needed.
  • Respond promptly and communicate effectively during medical situations or emergencies.
  • Foster positive resident relations, deliver service excellence, and maintain a cheerful, professional, and engaging demeanor with residents, families, and the public.
  • Maintain clear communication with Resident Life staff regarding schedules, time-off requests, resident interactions, and vehicle condition; submit receipts to the Director of Resident Life for processing.
  • Keep vehicle interiors clean and well-maintained; adjust heating, lighting, and ventilation for passenger comfort.
  • Perform basic vehicle operations, including monitoring lights, brakes, horns, tire pressure, windshield wipers, and fuel levels; report maintenance needs and coordinate servicing with the Plant Ops Department.
  • Support other resident-related, clerical, or inventory tasks as assigned.
  • Coordinate transportation activities with other departments as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working with elderly and dementia populations; experience in a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) preferred.
  • Valid Virginia Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class C with Passenger (P) endorsement for vehicles carrying 16–24 residents, or Class B for larger buses, with at least 2 years of driving experience and a clean driving record, qualified to safely transport residents in a senior living community.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a valid Medical Examiner Certificate.
  • Valid non-commercial driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • Commitment to resident safety, following protocols and all applicable driving laws.
  • Strong communication, organizational, multitasking, and independent decision-making skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency; experience with electronic scheduling systems preferred.
  • Compassionate, patient, and professional, maintaining positive resident relations.
  • Physically able to assist residents (up to 50 lbs.) and perform tasks such as standing, walking, bending, reaching, pushing/pulling, and climbing stairs.
  • Adequate vision, hearing, and sensory abilities to ensure safety and effective resident care.
  • Ability to safely operate company vehicles and equipment.

Comprehensive benefit package includes:
