JOB SUMMARY: To teach academic and technical content to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to safely and legally transport our customers’ hazardous chemicals, hazardous waste, and other materials. It is essential that experienced drivers and independent contractors joining any of the Action’s companies to have a positive experience within the training phase of their onboarding process. This role facilitates all facets of the learning experience for students, and it includes serving as a leader with new drivers and contractors.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform CDL Road Test
Conduct skill assessments of new hire proficiency offloading various types of equipment
Provide hands-on training with tank trailer, vac trailer, end-dump and roll off
Provide training with electronic ELD
Evaluate driver proficiency level and move accordingly
Document training events and update driver files
Preform respirator fit test to meet compliance in the respiratory protection program.
Determine if the driver is a culture fit for the origination and move accordingly.
Serve as backup instructor for orientation classroom training
Deliver prescribed lesson plans and instructional materials.
Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
Provide student appropriate feedback on course work.
Encourage, monitor the progress of individual students, and use information to adjust teaching strategies.
Prepare required reports on students and activities.
Prepare classroom and training range for training activities.
Observe and evaluate student performance.
Assign and grade class work, range work, road tests, hands on exercises, tests and assignments.
Assist with managing and ordering supplies as needed for orientation.
Manage PPE equipment, distribute to both new hires and re-supply field operations.
Communicate to other departments any information on student’s progress that could affect the student release from orientation and training.
Assist students in contacting their terminal for truck and load assignment.
Additional duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma or GED required, some college preferred.
A minimum of one year of experience as a trainer in a business, academic or technical school environment.
A minimum of five years of experience as a commercial combination truck driver with chemical tank and vacuum tank experience. Roll off and end dump experience a plus.
Must have a valid Class A Commercial Driver License with tank and hazardous materials endorsement
Must have experience with hazardous materials and hazardous waste.
Must have a valid Department of Transportation Medical Card.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
