Job Description - CDL Safety Coordinator


Position Summary:


The CDL Safety Coordinator for Motorcoach Operations ensures that all drivers and vehicles comply with DOT and FMCSA regulations, with a strong emphasis on passenger safety and regulatory compliance. This role focuses on driver training, incident prevention, safety audits, and regulatory recordkeeping to support a culture of safety and excellence in passenger transport services.



Key Responsibilities:



  • Oversee driver qualification files, DOT physicals, and ensure all CDL motorcoach operators meet compliance standards.

  • Conduct onboarding and recurring safety training for motorcoach drivers, including defensive driving, ADA compliance, and passenger handling.

  • Monitor hours of service (HOS) logs, ELD data, and coach driver scheduling to prevent violations.

  • Coordinate pre-employment, random, and post-accident drug and alcohol testing in compliance with DOT Part 382.

  • Conduct internal audits of driver records, vehicle maintenance logs, and safety documentation.

  • Investigate all incidents, including passenger injuries, vehicle accidents, and safety complaints; recommend corrective action plans.

  • Lead safety meetings and maintain an active safety committee, encouraging a proactive safety culture.

  • Track and analyze CSA scores, driver violations, and trends to mitigate risk and improve performance.

  • Serve as a liaison to the Department of Transportation and other regulatory agencies during inspections or investigations.

  • Assist dispatch and operations in resolving safety-related issues in real-time.



Qualifications:



  • High school diploma or GED required; post-secondary education in safety, transportation, or related field preferred.

  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger (P) endorsement required.

  • 3+ years in motorcoach or passenger transportation safety, including regulatory compliance.

  • Strong knowledge of FMCSA, DOT, ADA requirements, and safety best practices for passenger vehicles.

  • Experience with fleet management systems, ELDs, and safety reporting tools.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for engaging drivers and resolving issues.



Working Conditions:



  • Combination of office, yard, and on-road environments.

  • May require travel between terminals or to off-site training and accident locations.

  • On-call availability for safety incidents and emergencies outside of standard hours.
