Most dry van jobs out of the desert send you east for weeks. This one keeps you close. Runs normally last no more than three days, freight stays west of the Mississippi, and you are home every two weeks. Drivers from Desert Hot Springs and the Coachella Valley can start here two ways: as a new CDL graduate with paid training, or as an experienced driver ready to run solo.

What the job pays
Solo drivers average $1,000 to $1,200 a week on 1,800 to 2,200 miles. A qualified-driver bonus adds up to six cents a mile. Every stop except the first and last pays $15. When a load needs unload help, such as a pallet jack, liftgate or assist, that work is paid on top.
Where you run
Any state west of the Mississippi. Most loads turn in three days or less, so you pass near home often. If you want bigger miles, you can ask for runs past the Mississippi. Expect some winter driving in the mountain states.
