CDL-A Reefer Driver - New Grads Welcome

This lane pays by the mile, and the miles are there: 2,800 to 3,000 a week. You start at $0.60 per mile and the rate goes up every year.

It's a dedicated refrigerated account running out of the Lathrop yard. We need drivers who live within about 50 miles of it, and Winton, Atwater and Livingston are in range.

Where you'll run

Food-grade reefer freight across 5 western states: California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Utah. It's the same account and the same customers, week after week. About 40% of loads are drop and hook. Some customers do live unloads that can take time. Mountain grades and winter weather come with this lane, and the right driver handles both. You're home every 2 weeks, and most holidays can be spent at home.

Your pay

• $0.60 per mile to start
• $0.61 at 7 months, $0.62 at 13 months, then 1 cent more every year up to $0.70
• Average $1,500–$1,800 per week ($78,000–$93,600 a year)
• $25 for loads under 50 miles
• $10 per extra stop
• Weekly direct deposit

Recent CDL grad?

You can start here. You train with a mentor for 3 to 5 weeks (200–250 hours) at $850 a week, then move into your own truck on this account. Orientation lasts up to 2 days and pays $300 once you're hired. Lodging is included and your bus ticket is reimbursed.

Equipment

A late-model Freightliner, about 1.5 years old on average, assigned to you. Automatic or 10-speed. Most have an APU or inverter.

To qualify

• Class A CDL, 21+
• Live within about 50 miles of Lathrop
• 2 or fewer moving violations in 2 years
• No DUI/DWI in 10 years
• DOT physical, hair and urine screen
