This refrigerated lane was built for one kind of driver: someone who just finished CDL school. Experienced hires are not placed here. Every seat goes to a new driver who wants to learn reefer freight the right way, with a mentor, on regional western runs. If you live around Oxnard, Ventura or the Santa Clara River valley and you hold a fresh Class A, this is written for you.
At a glance
Questions new drivers ask
Where will I run? Seven western states: California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada and Arizona, with some Utah. Loads sometimes pass near home in the middle of a trip.
Will I unload trailers? No. Reefer loads use live load and live unload appointments, but the freight is no-touch. You wait at the dock. You do not work it.
Why reefer? It pays more. Reefer runs pay two cents more per mile than dry van, the hauls are longer, and stop pay is higher. Loads from 25 to 99 miles pay an extra $25 on top of miles.
Can I take the truck home? No. On your days off the truck stays at the Jurupa Valley terminal. That keeps your driveway clear and your truck secure.
Can I bring my dog? Yes, after training is complete. One approved dog up to 40 pounds. A rider program is available to solo drivers.
What else do I earn? Up to six cents more per mile each month when you hit 9,200 miles, average 7 miles per gallon and stay accident free. Stops pay $25 each.
Before you start
