Position at Leman Manhattan Preparatory School


Main Purpose of the Role:
The Léman Manhattan Preparatory School CECE/Lower School Head Teacher is part of an exciting and collaborative CECE/Lower School Division that promotes and nurtures the education of students by planning and delivering engaging inquiry-based units of study, demonstrates an understanding of child development and the appropriate standards and expectations for the grade across all subject areas and creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the physical, social, and emotional development of students utilizing the Responsive Classroom approach. As an international school with a global outlook, Léman Manhattan uses the International Baccalaureate Program to equip students with the knowledge and skills to become tomorrow’s successful leaders. Key Responsibilities: 
(The primary tasks, functions and deliverables of the role)
  • Teaches students by planning and delivering units of study consistent with the Léman mission and IB philosophy, emphasizing inquiry, creativity, and critical thinking
  • Creates differentiated classroom experiences by providing individual and small group instruction to achieve scaffolded support for all learners
  • Develops and delivers lesson plans that use a variety of techniques, group discussions, projects, exhibits, class trips, audiovisual and library resources, and technology
  • Creates and supports a positive, safe, and nurturing classroom community utilizing Responsive Classroom
  • Utilizes learning management and student information systems provided by the school
  • Consistently monitors and reports student achievement through formal and informal assessment both summative and formative.
  • Assists students in analyzing and improving habits and attitudes of learning
  • Counsels students with academic challenges and draws on the school resources for additional academic support
  • Identifies and addresses potential behavioral concerns by notifying and/or consulting with appropriate professionals
  • Keeps parents informed of all elements of student development including academic performance, attendance, and social-emotional learning through formal and informal communication methods such as parent-teacher conferences, both regularly scheduled and as-needed
  • Collaborates with school staff in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to school requirements
  • Provides student support by assisting with transitions, recess, and lunch duty
  • Communicates in a positive, professional manner with families at all times, keeping families informed of progress and potential concerns
  • Presents a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the school; demonstrates behavior that is professional and ethical as identified in Employee Handbook (inside and outside of school)
  • Continues to grow professionally by participating in educational opportunities, reads professional publications, and participates in professional organizations
  • Demonstrates flexibility and a positive attitude toward new challenges and growth opportunities
  • Participates in school-wide events; attends during and after-school functions in support of school community  
  • Completes a minimum of two duties as assigned by Division Head (number of duties may vary depending on role) 
  • Attends and participates in all required faculty and staff meetings and serves on school committees as required
  • Completes responsibilities as assigned by Division Head or direct supervisor based on student and school needs (e.g. test proctoring)
Requirements: 
  • Master’s Degree in Education
  • At least 3 years teaching experience in high-performing school
  • Certifications or licenses specific to age group
  • Commitment to the school’s mission, core values, and inclusion statement 
  • Experience interpreting and using multiple forms of data to inform instruction
  • Knowledge and experience developing and assessing curriculum
  • Experience with integration of instructional technology
  • Excellent written communication, public speaking, and presentation skills
  • Commitment to the school’s mission, core values, and inclusion statement
