We are seeking a Cemetery Crew Foreman to join our team! This is a working position where you will conduct burial services and oversee the activities of the groundskeepers.
Responsibilities:
- Perform and oversee burials including: marking out grave, setting up equipment, excavation, vault placement, filling, tamping and seeding graves.
- Opening/closing mausoleum crypts, sometimes on mechanical lift as high as 17 feet. Install lettering or crypt plates on fronts.
- Schedule grounds care based on need, seasonal requirements, and weather restrictions including: mowing, trimming, spraying for weeds, planting flowers, shrubs, trees, plowing, shoveling, ice melt, etc.
- Headstone and foundations: Mark out areas to dig and pour foundations to set memorials.
- Manage inventory of merchandise, supplies, and equipment and order as needed within guidelines set by administration.
- Completing work service orders and reporting back to office in a timely manner.
- Performs regular preventative inspections of tools and equipment to detect malfunctions
- Spot potential problems in the field that could cause accidents or damages and determine materials and supplies required for repair.
- Adhere to and enforce all safety policies and procedures.
- Reports progress and updates to Administrative Office daily.
Qualifications:
- Prior experience: 3 years minimum in cemetery or equivalent (i.e. landscaping with backhoe experience) and 2 years supervisory.
- Skills: operator of backhoe, tractor, mowers, trimmers, blowers, hedge trimmers and various hand held equipment.
- Strong leadership qualities: organized, good judgement, problem solver, flexible, compassionate.
- Excellent communication skills to understand, give and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Excellent math skills to add, subtract, multiply, divide to measure and mark out grave excavations and monument foundations.
- Education: High School or GED required, courses in agriculture or horticulture preferred.
- Valid PA Automotive Operators License with satisfactory driving record required..
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to endure the physical demands of the job while performing work in all weather conditions.
- Must be able to walk long distances (avg 4-7 miles daily) and for long periods of time (up to 3 hrs w/o break).
- Must be able to stand, sit, walk, bend, stretch, reach, push, pull and lift up to 50 lbs unassisted.
- Must be able to tolerate exposure to loud noises, fumes and smells.
- Must be able to tolerate exposure to grass, plants, pollen, bees and other insects.
