YMCA OF MEMPHIS AND THE MIDSOUTH CENTER DIRECTOR (NWGC)

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Northwest Gibson County YMCA.

YMCA ASSOCIATION

The YMCA of Memphis & the Mid-South is a $40+ million Association with 9 Wellness Centers, 2 Early Learning Centers, 150+ Childcare Before/After School Care locations including a large Nutrition Services Division serving West Tennessee and North Mississippi.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Oversees the daily operations of the Northwest Gibson County YMCA. The Northwest Gibson County YMCA is a full-service Center in Trenton, TN. The Northwest Gibson County YMCA serves approximately 425 units and 1,000 members. The Northwest Gibson County YMCA includes an outdoor pool, wellness area, group exercise area, spin cycle studio, gymnasium, and child watch area.

CENTER LOCATION:

The Northwest Gibson County YMCA is located in Trenton, TN.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Oversees daily operation of the center with a focus on exceptional customer service, member engagement, and Center operations.
  • In coordination with the Sr. Vice President of Operations, is fiscally responsible for the revenue target and growth projections as well as the management of Center expenses, including maintenance costs.
  • Manage the volunteer advisory board throughout the year. Collaborate with the volunteer advisory board during the Annual Campaign as needed and work closely with the Sr. Vice President of Operations for a successful campaign outcome.
  • Represent and promote the Y in the local community while developing positive working relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community agencies in the service delivery area to promote membership and expansion of program reach in the community.
  • Oversees the hiring, training, and supervision of center team members working closely with the member service & sales team, aquatics team, and child watch team.
  • Develops and directs high quality member engagement strategies and programs which support Center and Association mission, goals, and strategies.
  • Ensures the safety and maintenance of high quality facilities, grounds, and equipment through collaboration with the District Property Director.
  • Oversees the Aquatics Program including, but not limited to staffing; maintenance of pools and ensuring daily chemical logs are up-to-date; ensuring that state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations are met; overseeing lifeguards, ensuring they are adhering to Ellis and Associates safety standards; overseeing swim instructors, ensuring they are adhering to YMCA Swim Lesson curriculum; ensuring that training and certification guidelines are met for all aquatics staff. Willingness to become certified as an Ellis Lifeguard Instructor and a YMCA Swim Lessons Instructor Trainer preferred.

Anticipates challenges that can sidetrack or derail growth and personal learning. QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Bachelor's degree in human services, social services, business or equivalent preferred.
  • 3 or more years of successful operations and management experience in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to direct total operations through volunteer development, supervision of staff, development and monitoring of Center budget, marketing and public relations, and program development.
  • Experience in management and development of volunteer involvement; ability to recruit top community leaders to Center board preferred.
  • Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations, municipalities, and corporate partners.
  • Y Multi-Team or Organizational Leader preferred.

WORK SCHEDULE:

Typical hours for this position are 8:00am-5:00pm, Monday through Friday, though the facility is open seven days a week and may vary per the Y’s demands and hours of operation. Overtime may be required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Climbing, sitting, standing, pushing, walking, kneeling, and stooping.
  • Some Exposure to the outdoor elements.
  • Exposure to electrical/mechanical mechanisms.
  • Exposure to some chemical elements
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
