Job Description - Center Manager

As an Head Start Center Manager, you are responsible for the successful delivery of program services that empowers families to increase self-reliance and children’s ongoing progress.  Responsible for ongoing reflective supervision of staff that promotes their professional growth and development.  Provides leadership and oversight/supervision of the day-to-day operations of the center. Will represent the program or the center in the local community and establish good public relations with families and members of the community.



The position is full-time: 40 hours per week (Monday - Friday) / 52 weeks annually


Hourly non-exempt (Level 30)      Associate Degree $18.90 per hour      Bachelor's Degree $19.12 per hour



Education & Qualifications



  • Associate’s degree required; major in Social Services, Education, or a related field preferred

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in early childhood education; supervisory experience highly preferred

  • Must meet daycare licensing requirements for early childhood education/certification based on center size

  • FDC credential required (must be obtained in the first available cohort after hire)

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required

  • Must be willing to obtain a Class E Chauffeur’s License and maintain CPR/First Aid certification

  • Proficient in word processing and data entry; strong organizational, judgment, teamwork, and confidentiality skills essential



Essential Responsibilities



  • Ensure a safe, healthy, and engaging learning environment that supports the development of children and fosters family involvement.

  • Supervise, coach, and support center staff, including performance evaluations, daily operations, and maintaining staff-to-child ratios.

  • Manage full enrollment through coordinated recruitment, eligibility screening, and consistent attendance tracking.

  • Oversee program planning, documentation, and evaluation to meet compliance standards and achieve program goals.

  • Build strong relationships with families and community partners, promote parent engagement, and support access to resources and referrals.

  • Assists home base parents to create and assess developmentally appropriate activities, promoting the advancement of physical and intellectual competency within the child’s capabilities.

  • Maintain financial oversight, ensure confidentiality in all areas related the children and families, support curriculum implementation, and uphold mandated reporting and professional development requirements.


 


Safety


This position requires the employee to maintain attention to safety at all times.  Compliance with all safety policies is a must. 


 


Physical/Mental Demands


This position may require lifting/carrying (40lbs.), the ability to move around in an office setting, bending, prolonged visual concentration and the ability to independently travel to various volunteer sites.  Additionally, dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard is needed. There is a high degree of mental concentration pertaining to the job at hand.  The ability to communicate effectively in both a written and verbal context is necessary.  Successful candidates must be able to present to a diverse audience in a manner that promotes general understanding of the topic at hand.  If assistance is needed with any job performance contact your supervisor.
