Job Summary

The Center Store Manager is responsible for leading and managing the Dairy, Frozen Foods, Grocery, and GM/HBC departments, as well as the Evening Manager. Through collaboration with department managers and effective staff training and motivation, this role will ensure operational excellence, a positive and productive work environment, and achievement of the company's financial, operational, and customer service goals.  

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

  • Supervise, lead, and develop department managers for Grocery, Dairy & Frozen, GM/HBC, and the Evening Manager on Duty team.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and productive work environment by providing ongoing training, support, and coaching.
  • Ensure staff follow company policies, adhere to safety standards, and consistently deliver high-quality customer service.
  • Manage performance, conduct employee reviews, and address staff concerns or conflicts promptly.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, motivating teams to meet and exceed operational goals.

Department Operations & Inventory Management

  • Oversee daily operations across all departments, ensuring optimal inventory levels, product quality, and merchandise displays.
  • Monitor sales trends, adjust staffing levels, and order products to prevent stockouts and overstock situations.
  • Ensure all departments follow FIFO practices for inventory rotation and maintain proper product storage and handling.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to ensure timely delivery, competitive pricing, and quality control.
  • Manage labor costs effectively while balancing productivity, customer service, and profitability.
  • Regularly analyze and review financial performance, including sales, shrinkage, and contribution to overhead (CTO).

Customer Service Excellence

  • Lead by example in delivering exceptional customer service and create a positive shopping experience for customers.
  • Address customer inquiries and resolve complaints in a professional, efficient, and solution-oriented manner.
  • Encourage department teams to engage with customers, gather feedback, and drive customer loyalty through personalized service.
  • Ensure departments are clean, organized, and inviting, offering a welcoming atmosphere for all shoppers.

Health & Safety Compliance

  • Ensure all departments comply with health and safety regulations, food safety standards, and store policies.
  • Regularly inspect departments for cleanliness, safety hazards, and proper storage conditions.
  • Enforce loss prevention strategies to minimize shrinkage and ensure store security, especially during evening hours.

Operational Efficiency & Reporting

  • Oversee the completion of departmental goals, sales performance, and operational metrics across all teams.
  • Prepare and review weekly reports to track department progress against budget goals, and identify areas for improvement.
  • Ensure proper opening, closing, and cash handling procedures are followed.
  • Communicate any operational issues or successes to the Store Director for continuous improvement.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of management experience, preferably in grocery retail or food service with a focus on perishables.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask, problem-solve, and make data-driven decisions.
  • Proficiency in Windows, Google Business Suite, and other basic computer applications.
  • Excellent understanding of inventory management, product ordering, and financial oversight.
  • Knowledge of food safety and health regulations.
  • Strong customer service and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

  • Ability to stand, walk, and lift up to 50 lbs. regularly.
  • Occasional exposure to cold and hot temperatures, cleaning chemicals, and machinery.
  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Requires regular bending, reaching, crouching, and kneeling.
