Organizational Summary


The mission of the California Immigrant Policy Center (CIPC) is to uphold the humanity of immigrant communities in California by transforming systems to achieve racial, social, and economic justice. CIPC is a non-partisan, non-profit statewide organization engaging in advocacy, organizing, and strategic communications to uplift immigrant communities. CIPC was founded in response to the 1996 passage of federal immigrant and welfare laws that profoundly affected immigrants. Today, CIPC advances inclusive policies that build a prosperous future for all Californians, using policy analysis, advocacy and capacity building. 


 


Over the past 28 years, CIPC has led groundbreaking campaigns that have greatly expanded protections, as well as access to publicly-funded services and programs, for California’s low-income immigrant populations, including but not limited to the Safe and Responsible Driver Act, the TRUST and TRUTH Acts, CA Values Act, E-Verify Bill, the Health for All campaign, California Earned Income Tax Credit (CalEITC), and One California, the largest investment in legal services protection in the country.


 


Position Summary


The Central California Community Organizing Supervising Manager will direct and oversee community organizing efforts across the Central Valley and Central Coast region to build regional power for moving the immigrant justice agenda forward. This position will supervise a team of organizers, lead campaigns and coalitions, maintain existing and establish new partnerships with key stakeholders, and build the capacity of individuals and organizations to participate in policy campaigns related to detention and deportation, economic justice, and health and public benefits.


 


In addition, the Central California Community Organizing Supervising Manager will develop and implement strategic plans for community engagement, coordinate and supervise regional organizing initiatives, support broader movement building efforts, work on organization-wide priorities such as a statewide Immigrant Day of Action, and ensure that the voices of community groups are represented in CIPC's budgetary and legislative agenda.


 


The Central California Community Organizing Supervising Manager will work under the direct supervision of Deputy Director of Strategic Initiatives and collaborate with the Movement Building team. This position will be based in Fresno with travel throughout the Central Valley, Central Coast, Sacramento, and to our other offices and locations as needed (vehicle and driver’s license required).


 


Responsibilities


Supervision and Team Management


·       Manage, mentor, and guide a team of organizers, providing direction and support for their work with community partners and coalitions


·       Support and supervise department staff by providing mentorship, work plan development, and professional development


·       Establish clear goals, priorities, and performance metrics for organizing team members


·       Coordinate cross-regional organizing efforts to ensure strategic alignment and resource optimization


·       Proactively identify gaps and opportunities for CIPC initiatives, including novel organizing approaches and strategies


·       Support the Development, Executive, and Management team in fundraising activities including writing grant proposals and reports, recruiting sponsors, sharing fundraising campaigns and other initiatives to raise funds


Community Engagement and Mobilization


·       Lead coordination and maintenance of relationships with CIPC's Regional Organizing Cohort subgrantees, including the development of meeting agendas, facilitation of calls, and the planning and executing of convenings as needed


·       Develop and implement strategies to engage, recruit, and support directly impacted community members for legislative and budget advocacy efforts


·       Represent CIPC in local, regional, and state immigrant rights and budget coalitions and lead aspects of coalition work


·       Lead and support networks of base-building community groups and immigrant-serving organizations to organize and mobilize around immigrant-related policy and budget issues


Coalition Building and Management


·       Direct coalition coordination and conduct outreach to strengthen relationships and engage partners in budget and legislative advocacy campaigns


·       Develop new relationships with diverse community stakeholders and convene meetings and conference calls to promote communication and partnership


·       Lead and support outreach, organizing, programs, logistics, and other activities related to conferences, advocacy days, protests, press conferences,  and other organization-wide or partner events


·       Other Projects and duties as assigned.


 


Qualifications


·       Minimum of 8 years of experience in effective organizing and coalition building in a social justice sector, such as immigrant justice, health access, racial justice, climate justice, gender/LGBTQ+ justice, and/or economic justice


·       At least 3 years of supervisory or management experience, preferably in a community organizing or advocacy setting


·       At least 3 years of experience managing a team;


·       Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle with insurance, and ability to drive long distances on freeways, is required


·       Experience participating in legislative and/or budget advocacy efforts in California is preferred


·       Able to connect and build relationships and trust among various organizations, coalitions, communities, and stakeholders


·       Track record of working with ethnically, linguistically, and racially diverse communities; direct experience working with immigrant rights organizations and community-based groups in California strongly preferred


·       Excellent written and oral communication skills, particularly with staff, partners, and community-based organizations


·       Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc) and Google Drive (Docs, Sheets, Presentations, etc.)


·       Excellent critical thinking and troubleshooting abilities


·       Highly organized, motivated, and detail-oriented


·       Proficiency in non-English languages spoken by Latinx, Asian, Pacific Islander, African, Caribbean, and Arab communities is a plus


·       Passionate about immigrant rights and social justice including CIPC’s mission and vision


COMPENSATION & BENEFITS


Salary Range: $83,000 - $95,000


 


Salary commensurate with experience. The California Immigrant Policy Center (CIPC) provides a comprehensive benefits package to its employees, including 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance and 75% coverage for dependents, retirement contributions, and paid parking access. CIPC has a generous holiday and time off policy, including personal days and annual summer and winter recesses.


 


CIPC is a unionized workplace and is represented by Immigrant Advocates United-United Auto Workers. This position is not in the bargaining unit. CIPC provides a comprehensive benefits package to its employees:


·       Paid medical, dental, vision insurance, and life insurance (100% of the full insurance premium for qualified employees and 75% of the premiums for their dependents)


·       3% contribution to 401K-retirement plan


·       Commuter benefit or paid parking access


·       Monthly reimbursement for cell and internet usage


·       $1,500 professional development allowance


·       Generous time off policy


o   Up to 26 paid holidays a year (includes summer and winter collective breaks)


o   Vacation: 1st year of service: 10 days, after completion of 1st year: 15 days, after completion of 4th year: 20 days)

·       4-week paid sabbatical leave after 7 years of service.
