Job Title:

Central Intake Social Service Specialist 3 (SSS3) - Seattle
Location : Seattle, WA. This position is full-time. The work schedule is four days/week working ten hours/day: Wednesday to Saturday 4 pm to 2 am (40 hours). The assigned workstation is in the Seattle Pioneer Square/Stadium district. This is a telework position however, staff must be able to travel to and work from the office as required. Mandatory monthly in-person unit meetings and occasional in-person training, unit retreats, and all-staff meetings will occur.

The Opportunity:
This position will be responsible for performing assessments and responding to telephone and written reports of abuse, neglect, and other child welfare service requests. This individual will gather information and perform risk and safety assessments to properly screen cases and refer families to the appropriate services. Within DCYF Field Operations, the Central Intake unit operates 24/7 and provides services to Region 4 during weekday/non-holiday hours and statewide at all other times. This position provides intake program services for multiple programs such as Child Protective Services (CPS), Child and Family Welfare Services (CFWS), Family Reconciliation Services (FRS), and Family Voluntary Services (FVS). In this role, you will also work with the Licensing Division (LD) regarding complaints/infractions, provide crisis call management to assist callers for the End-Harm Line, and process ICPC/ICAMA requests.

Some of what you will get to do:
Respond to phone and written inquiries from community members and professionals reporting cases of suspected abuse and neglect.
Collect information, assess risk and safety for children, the risk to caseworkers, and make screening decisions on reports.
Enter correct and timely intake information and case data, extract and/or compare data from other sources such as CSO records, collateral contacts, and prior history.
Prioritize incoming calls during peak season and manage higher workloads by working on multiple cases simultaneously.
Refer cases to law enforcement where criminal acts may have been committed.
Conduct interviews with families and collateral sources.
Use basic knowledge of social services program components to assist in assessing and understanding risk factors and family dynamics.
Required Qualifications:
Six (6) years of paid social service experience. Paid Social Service experience must include at least one year of assessing risk and safety to children and providing direct family-centered practice services.

AND

30 semester or 45 quarter credits in a Social Services discipline completed at a college recognized by the U.S. Dept. of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
OR
Bachelor's degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences, or any degree that includes 30 semester or 45 quarter credits in a Social Service discipline AND Two (2) years of paid social service experience.*
OR
Master's degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences, or any degree which includes 30 semester or 45 quarter credits in a Social Service discipline AND One (1) year of paid social service experience.*
OR
One (1) year of experience as a Social Service Specialist 2.

*Paid Social Service experience must have included assessing risk and safety to children and providing direct family-centered practice services.

Degrees must be obtained from an accredited college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), or a foreign equivalent verified by a NACES-approved organization at naces.orgFor Degrees obtained outside the U.S.: Foreign Equivalency certification must be attached to the application. In addition to those required qualifications, our ideal applicant will also have some or all of the following:
Ability to effectively communicate and comprehend, interpret, and apply current applicable laws, rules, and policies on delivering child protective and child welfare services within Washington State and deliver services accordingly.
Ability to evaluate, analyze, and assess risk and safety in all cases as defined by law and best practice, and implement appropriate procedures using the agency's preferred risk and safety assessment tools.
Previously demonstrated experience using FamLink.

Retirement and Deferred Compensation

Holidays
Full-time and part-time employees are entitled to paid holidays and one paid personal holiday per calendar year.

Sick Leave
Full-time employees earn eight hours of sick leave per month. Overtime eligible employees who are in pay status for less than 80 hours per month, earn a monthly proportionate to the number of hours in pay status, in the month to that required for full-time employment. Overtime exempt employees who are in pay status for less than 80 hours per month do not earn a monthly accrual of sick leave.

Sick leave accruals for part-time employees will be proportionate to the number of hours in pay status, in the month to that required for full-time employment. Pay status includes hours worked, time on paid leave and paid holiday.

Vacation (Annual Leave)
Full-time employees accrue vacation leave at the rates specified in (1) or the applicable collective bargaining agreement (CBA). Full-time employees who are in pay status for less than 80 nonovertime hours in a month do not earn a monthly accrual of vacation leave.

Part-time employees accrue vacation leave hours in accordance with (1) or the applicable collective bargaining agreement (CBA) on a pro rata basis. Vacation leave accrual will be proportionate to the number of hours in pay status, in the month to that required for full-time employment.

Pay status includes hours worked, time on paid leave and paid holiday.

As provided in , an employer may authorize a lump-sum accrual of vacation leave or accelerate the vacation leave accrual rate to support the recruitment and/or retention of a candidate or employee for a Washington Management Service position. Vacation leave accrual rates may only be accelerated using the rates established WAC 357-31-165.

Note:

Most agencies follow the civil service rules covering leave and holidays for

exempt

Military Leave
Washington State supports members of the armed forces with 21 days paid military leave per year.

Bereavement Leave
