Responsibilities
Responsibilities of the Personal Caregiver include, but are not limited to the following:
- 1. Provides companionship by reading, conversation, and listening.
- 2. Participates in appropriate recreational activities and hobbies for social and sensory stimulation.
- 3. Assists clients in completing necessary phone calls, letter writing, etc.
- 4. Maintains a safe home environment for the client.
- 5. Accompanies clients on walks, community trips, grocery stores, doctor’s office, bank, etc.
- 6. Informs Care Coordinator/Director of Nursing of any changes in assignment.
- 7. Provides emotional support and promotes a sense of well-being.
- 8. Provides legible daily notes on activities, medicines, concerns, and lists anything needed by the patient.
- 9. May prepare meals, perform light housework, removal of garbage, changes linens and makes beds, laundering of clothing, and maintains a clean, neat, and orderly environment.
- 10. Assists in the maintenance of a safe and healthy environment.
- 11. Uses equipment and supplies safely and properly.
- 12. Able to respond to emergencies in the home.

Education And/or Experience
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent preferred.
- Training in the topics related to human development and interpersonal relationships, nutrition, shopping, food storage, use of equipment and supplies, planning and organizing of household tasks and principles of cleanliness and safety.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to communicate effectively with patient/client, family members, clinical management, and staff
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to author routine reports and correspondence.
- Communication skills, light housekeeping skills, basic meal preparation, caring attitude, tact, patience, and good personal hygiene.
