Certified Medical Assistant

The Certified Medical Assistant provides direct care to medication management clients. Provides nursing task support to Nurse Practitioners. Works effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team of professionals. This position may be remote, on-site, or hybrid in Iowa.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Answering the medication management phone line and directing phone calls to the appropriate department while at the same time taking necessary information from the caller to handle the caller's questions/requests.

• Take medication concerns and/or side effects information from the client, provide the information to the client's provider and follow provider's recommendations.

• Take medication refill requests from the client, provide the client's provider with the information, and follow provider's recommendations.

• Speaking directly with pharmacies to discuss client prescriptions.

• Speak directly with referral sources to obtain necessary information under the guidance of a Nurse Practitioner.

• Providing client with community resource information.

• Work with the provider to observe the Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP).

• Prior Authorization--obtain and submit additional information from the insurance company (To discuss information why the PA is needed), pharmacy (To discuss what the concern is), and/or client (Insurance and demographic information) by provider request.

• Assist with GeneSight Test per provider request.

• Assist with taking height and weight measurement, if on-site.

• Assist with taking vital signs including blood pressure, pulse and oxygen level, if on-site.

• Complete Medication Sample Inventory on a weekly basis.

• Responding to and sending faxes.

• Assist providers in obtaining release of information for outside records.

• Assist providers in collecting completed assessment tools, notify providers the completed assessment tools are ready to be reviewed and scored.

• Verify client information and make needed changes within the Electronic Health Record.

• As requested by the Nurse Practitioner, complete discharge information in the EHR.

• Track client communication and interaction in the EHR.

• Upload lab results into the Electronic Health Record

• Assist provider in completing external paperwork such as FMLA, referral, disability and etc.

• Attend clinical and operational meetings

• Provide information and/or consult with call center and administrative teams on activities and services that are within the scope of this position to ensure communication between the support functions

• Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

Competencies/Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

• Ability to handle medical records discreetly.

• Knowledge of behavioral health issues and terminology.

• Ability to multi-task and perform well in stressful situations.

• Communication skills.

• Ability to provide great customer service.

• Communicate closely with clients and prescribers.

• Maintain accurate documentation within the client's health care record and provide clear and concise information to the provider.

• Proficient in the use of computers and word processing software.

Education:

• Bachelor's degree in relevant field preferred

• Certified Medical Assistant required

Experience:

• Would prefer two years of experience working in the behavioral health field or related field assisting providers.

• Demonstrates an understanding of the different psychotropic medications.

• Familiarity with Electronic Health Record systems to maintain accurate patient records and ensure compliance with documentation requirements.

Other:

• Must be willing to travel to clinics (5% of the time)

• Valid driver's license

• Authorized to work in the US.

• Must live and work in Iowa.
