Trueblood programs were developed in response to a federal court ruling requiring Washington State to address unconstitutional delays in mental health services for individuals involved in the criminal legal system. These programs are designed to reduce incarceration and improve access to behavioral health care by offering timely competency evaluations, restoration services, and community-based support.
At Frontier Behavioral Health, Trueblood-funded initiatives include:
• FPATH – Forensic PATH: Provides intensive case management and support for individuals transitioning from jail or inpatient settings.
• FHARPS – Forensic Housing and Recovery through Peer Services: Offers housing assistance and peer support for individuals with behavioral health needs.
• OCRP – Outpatient Competency Restoration Program: Delivers outpatient services to help individuals regain competency to stand trial.
The Medical Assistant is essential to these programs, delivering trauma-informed, compassionate care to individuals navigating both behavioral health challenges and legal system involvement. The Medical Assistant is an active member of the Trueblood team to provide services to adults who are experiencing serious and/or chronic mental health disorders. This includes taking vital signs, drawing labs, medication refills, prior authorizations, and assisting the Trueblood psychiatric nurse practitioner. Clinical oversight will be provided by the Trueblood ARNP and the outpatient nurse manager. Services are primarily provided in the community where the Trueblood class member is located, accompanied by Trueblood staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
Performs venipuncture and basic lab procedures.
Obtain vital signs
Support Trueblood nurse practitioner in the provision of patient care, e.g., medication refill requests and prior authorizations.
Report suspected changes in patient condition and/or potential crisis situations to the Trueblood ARNP and outpatient nurse manager.
Provide verbal redirection and gradual guidance to patients if needed and role model appropriate behavior including utilizing de-escalation techniques that align with FBH provided training.
Attend/participate in required trainings, meetings, and supervision sessions.
Perform FBH charting requirements, correspondence, Workday and other paperwork in a complete and timely manner
Establish and maintain collaborative working relationship with all RNs, providers and FBH staff.
Requires travel to see clients in the community and travel between work sites either via FBH owned Vehicles and/or personal vehicle.
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFIED APPLICANTS WILL HAVE:
REQUIRED:
High School Diploma or GED
Active Washington Medical Assistance Certification.
BLS certification or must obtained within 90 days of hire.
Must have an unrestricted and valid driver’s license, be able to pass a motor vehicle screening and driving test, have active car insurance, and be willing to use their personal vehicle in the course of work.
PREFERRED:
1-2 years of experience in a behavioral health setting.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral formats, including the ability to complete objective clinical documentation.
Ability to communicate with individuals of various backgrounds, education levels, and socio-economic status.
Must have basic computer skills including ability to document in an electronic medical record, use electronic time tracking, and use Outlook, Word, Excel, and the intranet.

This position provides client services in community settings on a daily basis.
Community settings include but are not limited to residences, group/congregate living settings, hospitals, shelters, the streets or anywhere in the community at large.
Some environments may not be ideal in terms of cleanliness or being habitable.
Daily travel between locations is required.
The ability to drive a vehicle, traverse distances up to several city blocks and on various terrains, navigate stairs, get in and out of vehicles frequently is required.
Daily use of a computer is required.
May be required to lift 10 - 20 pounds.
Blood-borne Pathogen Category I – Chance of blood-borne pathogen exposure.
PAY RANGE (Hourly/ Non-Exempt): $24.30-$29.60
All pay is based on longevity at Frontier Behavioral Health; thus, the starting pay for this position is $24.30 per hour.
