Job Description - Certified Medical Dosimetrist

The Medical Dosimetrist is a member of the radiation oncology treatment and planning team. The Medical Dosimetrist works in collaboration with the radiation therapists, medical physicists, and radiation oncologists within the department. The Medical Dosimetrist measures and generates radiation dose distributions and calculations under the direct supervision of the radiation physicist and the radiation oncologist. The Medical Dosimetrist designs, generates and measures radiation dose distributions and dose calculations while providing oversight to high-level treatment procedures in both external beam radiation therapy and brachytherapy.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs computations to deliver a prescribed dose to a defined tumor volume
Supervises and/or assists in the preparation of beam-modifying devices and treatment aids necessary to carry out the planned treatment
Selects the treatment technique, beam angles, and beam shapes to deliver a high dose of radiation to the tumor while sparing as much healthy cells/organs as possible
Assists the radiation physicist in quality assurance and radiation protection programs when necessary
Assists in brachytherapy implants, including calculation of doses
Relays information between the oncologist, physics department, and the treating therapists
Some teaching of dosimetry to students may be necessary
Monitors changes/updates within the profession
Adheres to all Amergis and worksite rules, policies and procedures
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements:
Certified Medical Dosimetrist (C.M.D) licensure, as required by state regulations and/or contract specifications
Two (2) years’ experience in medical dosimetry preferred
Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice
Participation and completion of Amergis’ Competency program when applicable
Current CPR if applicable
TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site
Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements
Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required
Computer proficiency required
Must be at least 18 years of age
