Description

As a Certified Medication Aide (CMA) at Heartspring, you’ll play an important role in supporting the health, safety, and well-being of children and young adults with neurodevelopmental disabilities. Working across our residential group homes, you’ll ensure medications are prepared, administered, and documented accurately while serving as an important connection between our nursing team and direct care staff. This role is ideal for someone who is dependable, highly detail-oriented, comfortable working independently, and passionate about providing compassionate care.

  • Location: Wichita, KS
  • Position: Certified Medication Aide (CMA)
  • Schedule: Part-Time and Full-Time
  • Shifts Available: 2nd Shift: 3:00 PM–9:00 PM. Evening, weekend, and holiday availability required based on schedule
  • Experience: 6+ months of CMA/CNA experience required, active CMA certification 

What You’ll Do

  • Prepare, administer, and accurately document prescribed medications for Heartspring students
  • Verify medications and medication records for accuracy before administration
  • Administer insulin according to student-specific protocols and physician orders
  • Maintain accurate documentation and tracking of controlled substances
  • Monitor medication inventory and coordinate refills as needed
  • Prepare medications for student travel, home visits, and other scheduled activities
  • Receive and check pharmacy deliveries and cycle-fill medications
  • Assist with medication distribution and delivery to residential group homes
  • Ensure medication storage, labeling, and documentation meet Kansas DCF requirements
  • Complete required medication and refrigerator temperature checks
  • Identify and communicate health concerns to Heartspring RNs or APRNs
  • Communicate medication changes, treatments, and other important health information to direct care teams
  • Review medication records and assist with identifying and resolving documentation errors
  • Complete vital signs, height, and weight checks as ordered
  • Maintain and restock first-aid supplies in classrooms and residential homes

Requirements

  • Meticulously following protocols and procedures for medication administration and documentation. 
  • Demonstrated precision in record-keeping and adherence to regulatory standards.
  • Excellent time management, organizational, and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment.  
  • Solid communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective interaction with clients, staff, and vendors. 
  • Teamwork, dependability, and strong customer-centric approach. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, and digital tools/platforms. 

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • 6+ months experience as a CMA and/or CNA preferred..
  • Current Certified Medication Aide Certificate (CMA) or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) required.
  • Maintenance of CPR and NCI certifications.
  • Experience working with individuals with neurodevelopmental disabilities.

  • Vision/Hearing: constant ability to see clearly and hear instructions or warnings
  • Mind-Body Connection: frequent awareness of body positioning and task execution

Work Environment:

  • Environment: Indoor and outdoor work environments
  • Safety Compliance & PPE Requirements: Adherence to safety protocols and protective gear use constantly. Mandatory use of Heartspring standard PPE, with additional protective gear (e.g., gloves, helmets, arm guards, leg guards) provided as needed.
  • Physical Interactions & Exposure Risks: Frequent exposure to physical interactions from clients, including slapping, hitting, punching, kicking, head-butting, and biting. Potential exposure to infectious diseases, parasites, bodily fluids, and blood-borne pathogens in a school and residential care setting.
