The Certified Nursing Assistant will provide essential support to nursing staff and play a key role in the care and comfort of surgical patients. Responsibilities include assisting patients with activities of daily living, obtaining and recording vital signs, preparing patients for procedures, and providing support during the pre- and post-operative phases.
Hours:
.8 FTE - 32 Hours Per Week.
8 hour shifts
Specific Tasks Include:
Advocate for patients’ rights, preferences, and needs, ensuring that they receive high-quality, compassionate care that is tailored to their individual circumstances
Project a professional demeanor and appearance while maintaining the confidentiality of the patient, coworkers, and the organization, as appropriate
Assist patients with activities of daily living including bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, and oral care, especially pre- and post-operatively
Transport patients and equipment, assists with preparation of pre-op/PACU/OR, and properly cleaning of any area of the facility according to policy and procedures
Adhere to infection control protocols, including proper hand hygiene, PPE use, and isolation procedures as required
Follow best practices and departmental procedure regarding aseptic technique, handling of specimens and biohazard material
Ensure patient safety by implementing fall precautions, utilizing safety equipment properly, and maintaining a clean and hazard-free environment
Support patients with mobility needs, including repositioning, transferring to/from beds, stretchers and wheelchairs, and assisting with ambulation
Demonstrate proper technique with pre-operative scrubs and clipping of hair as requested
Accurately check patient vital signs and height and weight and reports them to the RN in a timely manner as requested by RN
Respond promptly to call lights and patient requests, ensuring timely communication with the nursing team
Performs and documents point-of-care testing in accordance with established protocols, ensuring accuracy, quality control compliance, and timely communication of results to the care team
Participate in the turnover of cases, preparing patients for admission and discharge
Set up and maintain patient areas/bays by stocking linens, supplies, and ensuring cleanliness and organization before and after procedures
Order supplies and restocks the unit as needed
Preparation, compilation, and maintenance of patient records
Promptly report and document any occurrences of unusual events, safety concerns, or incidents in accordance with organization policies and procedures
Participates in quality improvement activities as requested
Use the organization's secure messaging platform in accordance with departmental protocols, including timely receipt and responses to communications
Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Medical terminology
Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems
Quality assurance and accreditation standards
Understanding of HIPAA regulations, patient confidentiality laws and patient rights
Effective English communication in verbal and written form
Quality work including attention to detail and accuracy
Basic computer proficiency
Carry out customer service standards
Capacity to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
Prioritize tasks effectively through managing workload based on urgency and importance
Continuously learn and improve through staying up to date on job specific trends, policies, and new technologies
Demonstrate eligibility for employment in the U.S.
Current CNA licensure in the State of Wisconsin
BLS certification is required upon hire
Previous experience as a CNA is preferred
Must possess a cell phone that interfaces with the organization’s secure message system
