Role Description:
The Medical Associate/CNA is responsible for assisting with patient care in our medically managed detoxification, residential treatment, and outpatient recovery units along with a team of experienced RNs, LPNs, Counselors, Case Managers, Residential Service Associates, Peer Support Workers, Nurse Practitioners, and Physicians. The Medical Associate/CNA position assists the RN/LPN as they collect objective and subjective data from observations, examinations, interviews, and written records in an accurate and timely manner. The Medical Associate/CNA assists clients through withdrawal management and throughout their treatment experience, documents care provided in the electronic health record, collaborates with the team to carry out the plan of care, engages with patients/clients with empathy, kindness, and respect, follows orders delegated by the nurse and carries out tasks as assigned by RN/LPN.
Schedule:
Full Time (32-40 hours) Night Shift (7 pm-7 am) weekend availability
Requested schedules will be taken into consideration. However permanent schedules will be decided based on the operational needs of SFRC.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist with activities of daily living.
Vital signs: Measure and record patients' vital signs, such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration rate. Report findings along with patient-reported symptoms to RN/LPN
Patient monitoring: Monitor patients' behavior and health, and report any changes to medical residential services staff.
Patient safety: Examine patients for injuries or wounds, and remind them to take medications.
Patient information: Collect information about patients' conditions and treatment plans from nurses, nurse practitioners, doctors, and other interdisciplinary behavioral health team members.
Patient Medications: Oversee self-administration of patient medications and ensure proper medication dosages in alignment with prescriber’s orders.
Patient diet: Review patients' dietary restrictions, food allergies, and preferences and coordinate special diet requests with nursing staff and food services.
Compliance: Comply with HIPAA regulations by protecting confidential patient data.
Training: Stay up-to-date on CNA training, policies, and procedures.
Monitor patients during medication administration to ensure compliance and proper ingestion, in accordance with medical orders and treatment plans, document administration accurately, and maintain medication records.
Assist in emergency situations, following established protocols and procedures, including administering basic first aid and/or performing CPR if necessary.
May assist with the intake process, which may include taking vital signs, reviewing patient demographic information, reviewing patient home medications and new prescriptions.
Medical Associates may assist clients with children within the parameters of the Guidelines for Mothers in residential treatment policy.

Ability to exercise tact, patience, and discretion when dealing with residents, families, staff, and the public
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Certified Nursing Assistant
Must be able to pass internal Medical Associate Certification administered by SFRC
CPR Certified
Valid and insurable Driver’s License based on the SFRC insurance standards
