Job Description - Certified Pharmacy Technician

Northwest Human Services is a non-profit Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) and has been a leader in providing advocacy, quality healthcare and social services in Marion and Polk counties since 1970. LOCATION: Northwest Human Services - West Salem Clinic | 1233 Edgewater St. NW, Salem OR 97304


POSITION STATUS:  Full-time | Monday – Friday with rotating Saturdays 



Northwest Human Services is currently seeking a certified Pharmacy Technician to join our Team at our West Salem Clinic! 


 


YOUR ROLE:


The Pharmacy Technician supports prescription refill requests using physician-approved protocols. Working under the direction of a practitioner, they help streamline refill processes and ensure accurate documentation in the patient’s electronic medical record. They coordinate medication prior authorizations by providing clinical documentation to health plans and verify prescription benefits and formularies as needed. This role also involves contacting insurance companies to obtain necessary authorizations. The Pharmacy Technician plays a key part in maintaining complete and accurate patient records and works closely with medical staff to deliver high-quality, accessible care.



SPECIFIC DUTIES:




  • Actively participates as an integral and valued member of the Care Team, demonstrating active engagement in supporting the NWHS Mission.


  • Accurately processes prescription refill requests and approves refills or calls in prescriptions as appropriate according to protocol.


  • Effectively utilizes the 340B Drug Price Guide and insurance prescription drug formularies to improve patient access. Communicates with local pharmacies to assist with billing discrepancies/clarification pertaining to 340b.


  • Supports Consulting Pharmacist in non-clinical job duties including but not limited to maintaining hepatitis C spreadsheet, scrubbing for pharmacist appointments, management of patient assistance program, drug formulary lookup and cost determination, assisting patients with troubleshooting common pharmacy dispensing issues.


  • Communicates with the Care Team, the patient and respective pharmacies to ensure the prescription needs of patients are met.



QUALIFICATIONS:




  • Licensed Pharmacy Technician with one year of experience in a retail pharmacy setting that includes accurately billing third party insurance and troubleshooting common issues. Certified pharmacy technician preferred.

  • Retail pharmacy experience and prior authorization processing preferred. 


  • Bilingual preferred but not required.
