Job Description - CERTIFIED PROSTHETIST ORTHOTIST

Description

Position Summary:

This position will be responsible for providing patient care for adult and pediatric patients who require a variety of prosthetic and orthotic devices.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform a comprehensive assessment of the patient to obtain an understanding of the patient’s O&P needs.
  • Create a treatment plan to meet the needs and goals of the patient.
  • Design orthotic and prosthetic devices based on physician’s prescriptions.
  • Take a mold of part of the body to be fitted with a brace or limb, and select materials to be used for the orthotic or prosthetic device.
  • Provide clinical documentation of each patient encounter.
  • Instruct patients on how to use and care for their devices.
  • Repair or update prosthetic and orthotic devices.
  • Work in conjunction with Skilled Nursing Facilities, Home Health Agencies, rehab facilities, hospitals, house calls, and acute care.
  • Ordering and stocking inventory, maintaining stock levels, and reducing overhead cost
  • Oversee administrative staff and assist with patient scheduling and patient flow.
  • Conduct educational classes for physicians and staff as needed.
  • Must participate in mandatory on-call and call-back program to respond to emergencies.
  • Thorough understanding of the principles of biomechanics, gait analysis, kinesiology, human anatomy, and physiology.
  • Identify and reconcile issues or problems to ensure patient satisfaction with devices provided by SG Homecare.
  • Plan and implement strategies to meet and exceed revenue targets in coordination with management.
  • Provide detailed clinical notes to patient records.
  • Mentor or train residents or less experienced staff members.
  • Perform other duties or special projects as assigned.
  • Willing to travel to multiple locations as needed

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • ABC or BOC certification in Prosthetics and Orthotics
  • Medical / healthcare setting experience preferred.
  • License in Certified Prosthetist Orthotist
  • Demonstrated ability to listen and communicate in an empathetic manner.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills
  • Self-starter, motivated and detail oriented.
  • Problem-solving skills, resolve issues from patients in a timely manner.
  • Adhere to all safety and compliance regulations.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license in good standing.
  • Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Physical: Incumbents require sufficient mobility to walk, stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; operate office equipment, including the use of a computer keyboard; exert required physical effort to perform moderate to heavy physical work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling; push, pull, lift, and/or carry moderate to heavy amounts of weights; operate assigned equipment and vehicles; ability to verbally communicate to exchange information.

· Ability to lift patients using biomedical techniques frequently throughout the course of a workday/shift; must be capable of easily lifting fifty (50) pounds of weight alone.

· Frequently required to stand and lift objects from 1” to 36” high with

Body Position and Flexibility Elements:

· Ability to walk, bend, stand and reach constantly during a workday.

· Ability to push wheeled equipment throughout the facility.

· Fine motor skills adequate for scheduling and preparing patients, equipment, and supplies for treatment.

· Frequently required to bend down at the waist to a torso level of 24” above the floor.

· Ability to participate in sustained activities for many hours in duration in accordance with state labor laws.

Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read computer screens and printed documents; and to operate assigned equipment.

Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
