A community -based regional hospital is seeking a skilled and compassionate Certified Surgical Technologist – First Assist (CST) to join its surgical team. The ideal candidate will play an essential role in maintaining aseptic technique, assisting during surgical procedures, and supporting high -quality patient outcomes in a collaborative, patient -focused environment.

Position Overview

The Certified Surgical Technologist – First Assist is responsible for preparing and maintaining sterile environments, assisting surgeons during operations, and ensuring patient safety and procedural efficiency. This position offers the opportunity to work across diverse surgical specialties in a facility known for excellence in patient care and clinical collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare the operating room for surgery by organizing instruments, equipment, linens, and sterile solutions.
  

• Ensure all surgical equipment, including sterilizers, lights, suction machines, and electrosurgical units, is operational.
  

• Maintain a sterile field throughout surgical procedures to prevent contamination and infection.
  

• Prepare and position patients for surgery, including cleaning and draping incision sites.
  

• Anticipate the surgeon’s needs during operations by passing instruments and providing sterile items efficiently.
  

• Handle surgical specimens, assist with suturing, retraction, and dressing applications as directed.
  

• Restock supplies, clean the operating room, and ensure readiness for subsequent procedures.
  

• Adhere to hospital and Joint Commission standards for aseptic practice, patient safety, and professional conduct.
  

• Provide age -appropriate care to all patient populations.
  

Requirements

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required; completion of an accredited Surgical Technology Program preferred.
  

• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (must be obtained within 30 days of hire).
  

• Demonstrated experience assisting in surgical procedures in a hospital or surgical center setting.
  

• Strong understanding of sterile processing, aseptic technique, and infection control standards.
  

• Excellent critical thinking and time management skills.
  

• Ability to work independently in high -pressure situations and adapt quickly to changing needs.
