The Certified Teacher Assistant or Aide works under the supervision of a certified Teacher in our 853 school. Assist classroom teachers “in the performance of their teaching functions by performing those non-teaching duties otherwise performed by such regular teacher of teachers.” [Education Law, Section 3009 (2) (a)]. This is a 12-month position.
Primary Duties & Essential Functions:
Knowledge of basic communication skills needed to function in the classroom:
Knowledge of technologies role in the classroom.
Knowledge of how to support and assist students with special needs in the classroom.
Understands the Agency Mission/Vision.
Will be informed and knowledgeable of the assigned students' Behavior Suppo1t Plan (BSP), Individualized Education Program (IEP), and Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) if applicable.
Communicate effectively with education staff and other agency staff as needed to provide feedback on management issues.
Attend staff meetings and in-service training as required by supervisor. Assist in residential units in AM before school, as assigned.
Monitor classroom transitions, hallways, and restrooms.
Supervise assigned students on field trips, at assemblies, in cafeteria, detention, and other areas/events during the school day as assigned.
Guide and support assigned students in classroom activities as assigned and supervised by teacher.
Assist assigned students in the use of available instructional resources as assigned and supervised by teacher.
Proctor exams and quizzes.
Assume other responsibilities that belong to all education staff members such as participation in the behavior management program, insuring the health, safety and supervision of student and enforcing the Student Handbook and Code of Conduct.

Education and Requirements:
High School Diploma/Equivalency required
Experience in school setting preferred
Must have NYS CTA certification.
Maintains current certification in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI)
Knowledge on assisting students with disabilities or special need
