TITLE: Certified TIG Welder JOB CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY
As a TIG Welder, you will be responsible for performing high-quality welds on various metal components and ensuring the structural integrity and aesthetics of the finished products.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

- Perform TIG welding operations using appropriate equipment, tools, and techniques to join metal components accurately and securely, according to blueprints, specifications, and welding codes.
- Select and set up the welding equipment, including TIG welding machines, gas cylinders, torches, filler rods, and other related tools.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine welding requirements, dimensions, and tolerances.
- Prepare workpieces by cleaning, degreasing, and positioning them for welding, ensuring proper fit and alignment.
- Set welding parameters, such as voltage, amperage, and gas flow, according to the material type, thickness, and desired weld quality.
- Execute TIG welding operations on a variety of metals, such as stainless steel, aluminum, and titanium, while maintaining strict adherence to safety protocols and quality standards.
- Monitor the welding process, inspecting the welds for defects, such as cracks, porosity, and distortion, and make necessary adjustments to ensure optimal results.
- Perform post-welding tasks, including grinding, smoothing, and polishing, to achieve a finished appearance and remove sharp edges.
- Conduct regular maintenance and inspection of welding equipment, identifying and reporting any malfunctions or repair needs to the supervisor.
- Follow safety guidelines and maintain a clean and organized work area to ensure a safe and efficient working environment.
- Collaborate with team members, including engineers and fabricators, to discuss project requirements, troubleshoot issues, and provide input on welding techniques and processes.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
- In-depth knowledge of welding principles, techniques, and best practices, with expertise in TIG welding on various metals.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain high-quality standards in welding operations.
- Skilled in operating and maintaining TIG welding equipment and related tools.
- Ability to assess weld quality and identify and rectify defects.
- Solid understanding of welding safety procedures and practices.
- Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with team members.
- Physical stamina and dexterity to perform welding tasks for extended periods.
- High level of professionalism, reliability, and a strong work ethic.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma
- Minimum of 5 years of professional welding experience, with a focus on TIG welding techniques
- Valid certification in TIG welding
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED WORK HOURS
This is a temporary position lasting 60 to 90 days with the potential of becoming permanent. Typical days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Occasional overtime may be required as job duties demand.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position operates in a manufacturing environment which requires the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields and safety footwear and is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions.

- Lifting, carrying, and/or moving up to 70 lbs.
- Frequent standing (up to 100%).
- Occasional squatting and sitting.
- Ability to use hands and fingers for holding, carrying, grasping, pinching, pulling, pushing; rotating fingers, wrists, and hands; manipulation of machine controls, tools, and parts.
- Ability to identify parts and tools, observe operations of machine, and visually inspect completed parts.
TRAVEL
No out-of-area or overnight travel is expected.
