About the Role
The Department of Internal Medicine at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center invites applications and nominations for an exceptional physician leader to serve as Chair of Internal Medicine. This is a rare opportunity to lead a highly specialized department at one of the nation’s premier cancer centers — shaping the future of integrated subspecialty care for medically complex oncology patients within an internationally recognized academic environment.
Distinct from the Department of Medicine, which houses medical oncology subspecialties, the Department of Internal Medicine brings together expert general internists and subspecialists in cardiology, pulmonary medicine, nephrology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, and infectious diseases to support the comprehensive care of cancer patients across the continuum. The department plays a critical role in enabling cutting-edge oncology treatment, perioperative optimization, survivorship, and complex inpatient and outpatient medical management.
We are seeking a visionary, collaborative, and academically driven leader who will elevate clinical excellence, strengthen interdisciplinary partnerships, advance academic integration, and mentor the next generation of physician leaders. The successful candidate will report directly to the Physician-in-Chief and serve as a key member of Roswell Park’s clinical leadership team.
What You’ll Do
• Provide strategic leadership for the Department of Internal Medicine across clinical, academic, operational, and growth initiatives
• Expand and strengthen subspecialty programs in cardiology, pulmonary medicine, nephrology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, and infectious diseases
• Advance integrated, cancer-focused internal medicine care models that support patients with medically complex oncologic needs
• Foster collaboration across oncology, surgery, critical care, pathology, radiology, and translational research programs
• Champion evidence-based care delivery, quality improvement, and patient safety initiatives aligned with High Reliability Organization principles
• Recruit, mentor, and develop outstanding faculty with a strong emphasis on cultivating future academic and clinical leaders
• Support faculty engagement in translational and clinical research initiatives across the institution
• Strengthen departmental visibility, reputation, and academic impact nationally and internationally
• Collaborate with institutional leadership to identify opportunities for programmatic growth, operational excellence, and strategic partnerships
• Contribute to the academic mission through mentorship, teaching, and participation in institutional leadership initiatives
