Job Description - Chemical Operator - Reduction Department

Description

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Harvest of crude silicon rods which may include the stabilization & handling of silicon rods on the harvest cart, operation of rod manipulator, and hammering of silicon rod bridges. Very small traces of HCl fumes may typically be present for <1% of the job task.

• Set up and transportation of silicon rod carts.

• Reactor chamber buffing, cleaning, inspection and batch preparation.

• Removal of carbon, cleaning, and drying of reactor plates. Operation of power washer and vacuum are involved. Traces of polymer residue maybe present in job task.

• Reactor carbon and silicon seed assembly.

• Set up and removal of reactor hydrolysis.

• Support and fieldwork of reactor start and stops.

• Production maintenance activities (i.e. small pipe & valve replacements, pipe cleaning & decontamination, equipment troubleshooting, plant shutdown tasks, etc.).

• Trained & familiar with Rotating Operator job tasks such as operation of evaluation reactors, carbon purification furnaces, production rounds, chlorine treatment, vacuum pump operations, etc.).

• Operate floor cleaner for reactor floors.

• Use of pallet jack or lift truck to aid in work tasks.

• Transportation to acid cleaning and water flushing of non-hazardous polymer drums.

• Cleaning of work areas.

Requirements

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Ability to use hand tools for the purpose of loosening or tightening nuts & bolts on an industrial scale to the point of preventing leaks from flanges

• Ability to perform maintenance as needed

• Ability to use air impact tools

• Ability to use electric corded and cordless tools including saws and drills

• Ability to use fall protection devices such as fall restraint harnesses

• Ability to communicate in loud environments

• Understanding of the basic concepts of detailed work instructions including the cause and effect of actions taken within these instructions

• Forklift certification with the ability to move pallets and containers up to 4000 lbs.

• Basic math such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentage, and average calculations

• Accumulate information pertaining to plant operations and accurately convey or communicate that information to the next shift personnel

• Ability to use a fire extinguisher properly

Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or equivalent; further education and certifications such as Chemical Operator, ISO 9001 and/or 14001 are preferred.
