CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

POSITION SUMMARY:

 

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) serves as the senior financial leader for the Jewish Federation of Cincinnati (JFC) and is a key member of the organization’s executive leadership team.The CFO reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer and works in close partnership with the Managing Director of Shared Business Services (SBS). The CFO maintains primary responsibility for the financial leadership, governance support, financial planning, operational stewardship, and long-term fiscal sustainability of JFC.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  • The CFO is responsible for the overall financial management of JFC, including accounting oversight, budgeting, forecasting, treasury and cash management, investment and endowment oversight, financial reporting, audit coordination, compliance, internal controls, donor-advised fund stewardship, and long-range financial planning. 

  • Operating within JFC’s Shared Business Services (SBS) model, the CFO partners closely with the Managing Director on operational integration, shared systems, finance team alignment, and cross-functional collaboration while leveraging SBS infrastructure and organizational support capabilities.

  • This role requires a strategic, mission-driven, and collaborative leader who can effectively partner with executive leadership, volunteer leaders, affiliated organizations, community stakeholders, and external advisors while helping shape the future of the JFC and the broader Jewish community.

  • Executive Leadership & Strategic Partnership

    • Serves as a member of the JFC executive leadership team and Shared Business Services leadership team

    • Partners closely with executive and lay leadership to support organizational strategy, long-range planning, and financial sustainability

    • Serves as a strategic thought partner to the CEO, COO, Executive Committee, Board of Directors, Finance & Administration (F&A) Committee and Investment Committee

    • Provides strategic financial analysis, forecasting, and scenario modeling to support organizational decision-making and mission impact

    • Helps guide organizational resource allocation and financial decision-making in alignment with JFC’s strategic priorities and mission

    • Builds strong partnerships across departments, affiliated agencies, and community stakeholders to support operational alignment and organizational effectiveness



  • Financial Management & Oversight

    • Oversees all finance and accounting functions for JFC, ensuring strong financial stewardship and operational integrity

    • Ensures timely, accurate, and transparent monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting

    • Leads annual budgeting, forecasting, and multi-year financial planning processes

    • Oversees treasury management, banking relationships, liquidity planning, and cash flow forecasting

    • Develops and maintains financial policies, procedures, and internal controls that safeguard organizational assets and ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and best practices

    • Ensures proper stewardship and accounting treatment of restricted funds, endowments, grants, and donor-advised funds

    • Supports organizational decision-making through meaningful financial dashboards, metrics, analytics, and reporting tools



  • Investment, Audit & Risk Management

    • Serves as professional staff liaison to the F&A Committee, Investment Committee, and other assigned board committees

    • Works collaboratively with external investment advisors, custodians, and banking partners in conjunction with the Investment Committee

    • Supports long-term stewardship and sustainability of philanthropic and endowment assets

    • Oversees organizational risk management related to financial operations, investments, compliance, insurance, and internal controls

    • Leads the annual external audit process and preparation of all required regulatory and tax filings, including Form 990



  • Operational Excellence & Systems Leadership

    • Identifies and leads process improvements and operational efficiencies across finance and related operational functions

    • Leads or supports finance-related technology initiatives, systems evaluations, reporting enhancements, and implementation projects

    • Partners with SBS leadership to optimize shared systems, workflows, operational alignment, and service delivery

    • Supports modernization of financial reporting, analytics, and decision-support capabilities



  • Leadership & Team Development

    • Leads, mentors, and develops finance team members while fostering a collaborative and service-oriented culture

    • Provides supervision, coaching, performance management, and professional development support for direct reports

    • Encourages innovation, accountability, and continuous learning within the finance function




POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required

  • CPA strongly preferred; MBA or other advanced degree preferred

  • Minimum of 15 years of progressively responsible financial leadership experience

  • Nonprofit, foundation, endowment, philanthropic, or community organization experience strongly preferred

  • Experience serving as a strategic advisor to executive leadership, boards, finance committees, and investment committees required

  • Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships with volunteer leadership, donors, and community stakeholders

  • Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting principles, internal controls, and financial best practices

  • Demonstrated experience with financial systems, reporting platforms, and technology-enabled process improvement initiatives

  • Strong executive presence and ability to work effectively with volunteer and lay leadership
