In addition to the Prize, Aurora organizes and promotes the Aurora Dialogues, a platform for the world’s leading humanitarians, academics, philanthropists, business leaders, and civil society to come together for a series of insightful discussions about some of today’s most pressing humanitarian challenges.
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Chief Financial & Operating Officer (CFOO) will be an integral part of Aurora’s senior management team. The CFOO will lead the Aurora Humanitarian Initiative’s financial operations and human resources functions. This role is based in Washington, DC or Boston, MA with an expectation of 3 days in office per week.
Responsibilities
The CFOO core responsibilities will span financial management, audit and compliance, donations management, strategic finance, human resources management, IT management and endowment oversight.
Financial management: Budgeting, month-end bookkeeping, regulatory and donor compliance, financial processes and technology (e.g., software, programs)
Audit and compliance: Year-End financial statements, audit, 990, grants accounting,ongoing compliance monitoring (Tax, HR, Char. Solicitations, etc.), including preparation of reports for the Board of Directors
Donations and grant management: In partnership with the Director of Development, record and report on donations received and manage donor contact information. Manage vendor / grantee payments. Comply with and maintain the AHI Gift Acceptance Policy
Strategic finance: Support the Executive Director in strategic planning, forecasting, budget analysis and reporting
Human Resources management: Payroll, benefits, hiring, resource allocation and organizational planning, team development, staff support and engagement. Travel policy, booking and security
Information Technology (IT) management: Lead on procurement, maintenance of IT (softwares, programs) to support AHI team, including documentation / resource management, remote collaboration, events, client relationship management (CRM), grant management. Manages IT budget
Endowment oversight: Works with Board committee on endowment oversight, investment and reporting
Qualifications
10-15 years of progressive responsibility in leading finance, operations and HR functions
Deep knowledge of nonprofit financial and tax accounting
Familiarity with relevant nonprofit laws and regulations (e.g. UPMIFA, charitable solicitations requirements)
Experience in internal accounting, reporting, budget preparation and monitoring
Excellent communication (oral, written, live and asynchronous)
Experience with international banking transactional activity and practices
Familiarity with foreign exchange accounting
Ability to achieve goals and align interests through cooperation and collaboration with other groups and cross-functional teams, even where no direct reporting relationship exists
Strong experience in organizational planning and development, IT change management
Strong prioritization and project management. Proven ability to hit deadlines within and beyond the office in a multicultural, multi-geography environment
Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive matters
A strategic, solutions-focused thinker with the ability to work both individually and as a member of a collaborative team
This role is based in Washington, DC or Boston, MA with an expectation of 3 days in office per week
Up to 20% travel, including domestic and international travel for events, conferences, team gatherings
Degree in finance, business administration or accounting, CPA; equivalent experience will be considered
