Job Description - Chief Lending Officer

Description

 Position Overview:  

This position has responsibility for all lending functions, enhancing underwriting guidelines and loan policy, establishing and maintaining annual strategic lending objectives, and coaching and mentoring direct reports while promoting our brand and culture. Oversees provision of a full range of services to members and prospective members.  The position works with the credit union’s leadership team to develop and lead the organization’s mission and strategy.  May represent the Credit Union to regulatory agencies, other financial organizations, trade associations, and others.  

Essential Functions:  

  • Provides strategic leadership and program development supporting the organization’s consumer lending, mortgage, and business lending initiatives  
  • Supervises activities of management within area of responsibility. Leads development, coaches, and evaluates performance 
  • Maintains ongoing awareness of all team members’ performance throughout area of responsibility   
  • Ensures a culture of accountability, productivity, goal achievement, and positivity 
  • Works with the leadership team to develop and lead the organization’s lending strategy  
  • In close coordination with EVP/COO and AVP of Operations, set branch production goals, rolls out lending initiatives, training and loan related policies, procedures and associated functions 
  • Prepares short- and long-term plans for areas of responsibility in coordination with organizational strategy  
  • Continually improves our lending products and services and optimizes processes and systems 
  • Leads the research and implementation of new consumer lending, mortgage lending, and business lending products and services to meet member needs with a focus on net income, growth, and epic service 
  • Analyzes market and economic trends, local and industry competitors, and secondary market activities 
  • Recommends loan rates and fee structures and ensures all loan programs are viable, productive, and competitive 
  • Conducts research and prepares budget for areas of responsibility and determines pricing strategies 
  • Ensures excellent service is provided and fosters working relationships internally and externally including members, vendors, other service partners, industry and regulatory professionals, and general public  
  • Recommends, develops or changes, and implements policies and procedures   
  • Maintains knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to areas of responsibility and follows required changes on Federal and State levels  
  • Maintains functional knowledge of business practices, essential responsibilities, and high-level regulatory knowledge over area of responsibility  
  • Ensures team understands the mission, vision, and culture of Frontier Credit Union and how their work contributes to the overall success of the organization   
  • Promotes ongoing training and development of all individuals 
  • Ensures availability of competent, qualified personnel for management positions as well as developing high quality department bench strength 
  • Recognizes team members through various mediums; consistently coaches, develops, and mentors direct reports 
  • Participates in Frontier and other external training relative to position duties  
  • Effectively integrates and sponsors community relations and activities.  Garners staff enthusiasm and participation in community service events   
  • Appropriately informs Senior Team of lending activities and any significant changes or problems   
  • Provides suggestions for improved efficiency or effectiveness are provided.  Ensures required records and reports are accurate and timely 
  • Represents Frontier in a professional and positive light within the communities we serve 
  • Acts on service and operational needs that are observed   
  • Seeks out revenue increasing and/or money saving opportunities 
  • Understands, applies, and complies with all Credit Union Policies and Procedures, State and Federal laws and regulations, and adheres to requirements set forth by the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) 
  • Completes other assigned duties commensurate with position 

Requirements

 

Qualifications/Skills:  

  • Minimum of 10 years of financial industry experience; Five years in a lending management capacity; Five years consumer and/or mortgage lending; Business lending experience a plus 
  • College Degree in Business, Finance or related field may offset four years of financial industry experience 
  • Experience in driving continuous improvement across products, services, processes, systems and technology using key metrics to analyze objective and subjective measures of efficiency, effectiveness, and quality to make informative decisions or recommendations 
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate team members to achieve results. Clearly define and communicate the strategy, direction, and objectives for all product lines under area of oversight 
  • Work within and/or lead cross-organizational initiatives and project teams  
  • Maintain good knowledge of operations within areas of responsibility 
  • Time management and discipline is required to complete work associated with position 
  • Requires knowledge of procedures and requirements pertaining to credit union operations 
  • Some travel is required. Infrequent out of state travel (less than 6 times per year). Travel to and between all Frontier locations as needed requiring incumbent to be licensed and insured driver or have other reliable transportation  
  • Operate a computer with proficiency of MS Office; Excellent knowledge of report software and processes  
  • Serve as a member of the Senior Team; Work cooperatively with others; Provide ideas and feedback regarding all credit union practices; Actively participate in problem solving and idea generation; Participate in constructive discussions regarding own area of charge and reciprocates respectfully 
  • Communicate with courtesy, tact, and diplomacy in person and over the phone 
  • Perform job duties independently with limited supervision; work effectively on own and as part of team 
  • Ability to read and carry out various written instructions and follow verbal directions 
  • Must remain composed in stressful, high-pressure situations. Calmly and professionally handle different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of member service 
  • Demonstrate extreme accuracy and quality, effectively handle multiple tasks and changing priorities, and exercise highest level of discretion on both internal and external matters 
  • Report to work regularly; maintains reliable and timely attendance. Available to work days and hours as dictated by business needs  

Physical Requirements:  

Bend, sit, or stand to perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion; occasional lifting up to 10 lbs. Operate routine office equipment including computer terminals, keyboards, telephones, copiers, and calculators. Work on computer for up to 8 hours per day. Some locations may require ability to climb or descend stairs with minimal assistance in emergency situations.
