Position Summary:
The Chief of Security is responsible for the safety and security of the Facility. The Chief of Security oversee direct care staff, develop security policies, and manage operational supervisors
Key Responsibilities:
- Daily camera review and immediate feedback to ensure 10 Minute checks are conducted properly.
- Ensure camera review is done for all incidents and documented as part of Internal Investigations.
- Ensure Incident/PAR reports are submitted from Unit Managers/Shift Supervisors completed and in a timely manner.
- Supervise assigned personnel, including making and monitoring work assignments, evaluating performance, providing training, corrective instruction/ assistance and conducting individual/ group meetings as needed. Maintains communication with Operations Management Team regarding problems with assigned personnel, such as attendance, conduct, work performance and interaction with co-workers.
- Ensures compliance with state rules/ regulations, facility policies and procedures and ensures security of various facility areas as assigned. This includes conducting security checks, room searches, scheduling/overseeing periodic searches for contraband, monitoring electronic door locks and monitoring residents’ activities and visitation.
- Regularly inspects housing units, identifying problems/concerns, and taking corrective action as needed.
- Responds to problems and emergencies from off-duty status, aiding other facility areas as needed. Assumes specific responsibility for coordinating youth and staff in the facility during emergencies, such as fire and severe weather.
- Acts as ADO on rotating scheduled basis.
- Provide direct oversight to the Operations Manager to ensure expectations are met to include supervisions of Master Control, Transportation and Shift Supervisors.
Other Duties Include:
- Maintain a high standard of role model behavior for youth.
- Participate in training and development activities as required.
- Report any acts, incidents or conditions that reflect the possibility of inappropriate youth-to-youth or staff-to-youth relationships.
- Report any use of physical force and all unusual incidents per YOI and customer agency guidelines
- Perform other duties as assigned or needed
Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university/college preferred, but not required. High School Diploma or GED is required.
- Experience: Minimum of three years of experience working with children with serious emotional disturbances or substance abuse problems in a residential setting is required. Prior supervisory experience in related setting is preferred. Working knowledge of and ability to assist in assessing youth regarding chemical dependency, substance abuse, and physical, sexual and emotional abuse.
- Skills: Possession of or ability to obtain first aid/CPR; Effectively supervise, direct, monitor and appropriately interact with youth, and diplomatically deal with sensitive situations; Effective verbal and communication skills with co-workers, other stakeholder departments, Probation Officers, caseworkers, law enforcement and court personnel, juvenile residents, and the public, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities and disabilities.
- Physical Demands: Must be in good physical health, emotionally stable, and be able to move about the property. Must be able to participate in youth activities. Must be able to transport youth or staff. Must be free of communicable diseases as defined by the state and to the extent that data is attainable under the law. Must be able to pass evaluation of physical techniques and written certification exam.
- Other: Must maintain an appropriate and valid state driver’s license and safe driving record. Must meet required state or local criminal background check requirements. Must have ability to occasionally work extended, evening and/or weekend hours.
