About the College/Unit/Department
The Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University and the University of Georgia partnered to create a four-year medical school campus in Athens to help alleviate a statewide shortage of physicians that threatens the health of Georgians. The AU/ UGA
Medical Partnership has been educating physicians in Athens since 2010.
On February 13, 2024, the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia authorized the University of Georgia to establish a new, independently accredited School of Medicine in Athens. The

School of Medicine will build on the success of the AU/ UGA
Medical Partnership and is currently seeking

accreditation.

Position Summary
This senior administrator will report to the Founding Dean of the new
UGA
School of Medicine ( SOM ) and is responsible for ensuring that administrative and operational responsibilities are handled effectively and efficiently in the Dean’s Office. The Chief of Staff promotes excellence in operations and effectiveness in communications, leads strategic School of Medicine initiatives, and carries out special projects and assignments as requested by the Dean. This is a key role, with the Chief of Staff being a trusted confidante of the Dean, who often acts on behalf of the Dean, leading discussions and providing strategic insights.

through effective internal and external communications with a high attention to accuracy and detail. The Chief of Staff will balance and influence multiple competing priorities and interests. The Chief of Staff will provide expertise and serve as an advisor and resource in support of the Dean and serve as a liaison to administrative units across
UGA
as well as to community partners. The Chief of Staff will utilize complex problem-solving skills and provide effective and trustworthy leadership to support the goals and objectives of the
UGA
SOM .
