Job Description - Child Fatality Review Coordinator


Job Title: Child Fatality Review Coordinator
Location: Indianapolis, IN

This position serves as the Child Fatality Review Coordinator which serves 32 individual counties.

Child Fatality Review (CFR) is a process that works to understand child deaths in order to prevent harm to other children. Local CFR teams are required by IC 16-49 in Counties and supports the teams through coordination; working with community leaders to maintain and enhance their review teams, developing partnerships with child health and safety organizations; and implementation of CFR team recommendations in order to prevent child mortality and morbidity.

Will work to assist with monitoring the progress of the priorities and objectives, and assist with the creation and maintenance of CFR infrastructure. This will include technical support of local CFR teams, building networks of partnerships and with the planning, implementation, and evaluation of programs. will assist local CFR teams and community partners to promote prevention messaging and practice throughout Indiana. This may include assessing community strengths and identifying gaps in services, assisting with collaboration efforts, and making recommendations to the division director for strategic program planning.

DUTIES

  • Assist with the creation of an infrastructure and communication network for fatality review teams
  • Assist in the coordination of Child Fatality/Fetal-Infant Mortality meetings
  • Assist with the administration of the electronic data collection system used by the local CFR teams and the statewide CFR committee
  • Assist in the coordination of the statewide CFR committee activities, meetings, data collection and report assembly
  • Establish collaborative relationships/partnerships with potential partners that could include both public and non-profit agencies as well as individuals within the community.
  • Develop a regional training network to support and facilitate local and regional initiatives in order to strengthen fatality review and prevention efforts
  • Assist with data collection through local fatality review teams and others
  • Collaborate with DFP team members and participate in statewide reviews
  • Assist with gathering and maintaining records
  • Routine reporting of program activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Support and promote DFP initiatives
  • Participate in activities of professional development, team building and self care

DIFFICULTY OF WORK

This position requires significant attention to detail and the ability to work with internal and external partners. The incumbent must also be able to resolve problems, logically develop ideas, interpret policy, and have superb oral and written skills. Because of the nature of the work, the incumbent needs to have the ability to keep confidentiality. Incumbent will be indirectly exposed to difficult subject matter including details related to child mortality.

RESPONSIBILITY

Because of the independent nature of the work, incumbent bears the responsibility for maintaining a high level of work ethic, personal accountability, and initiative. Incumbent also will represent to the community partners and therefore has the responsibility to demonstrate professionalism when working with communities. Incumbent exercises extensive judgment and creativity to adapt agency’s goals and procedures. Incumbent must develop programs and policies to handle new or unusual situations that impact upon the program area and ultimately the entire agency. Incumbent investigates and maintains comprehensive datasets of fetal, infant, and child death and informs leadership about new deaths.

Inappropriate decisions or delays in completing assignments may affect federal grant requirements and monetary disbursements. Releasing inaccurate or confidential information to staff, the public, or other agencies can cause potential loss of federal grant money, legal action, embarrassment to the agency, and undesired focus of media's attention if statewide data do not meet national standards and are therefore excluded from national statistical publications.

PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS

Incumbent represents to numerous internal and external partners statewide and advises Division Director on matters of major impact to ensure conformity with agency priorities..

Skill Matrix:

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, public health or related field. Required
  • Prior experience in child welfare, public health or related area. Required 1 Years
  • Prior experience with data collection, analyzing data and identifying trends. Required 1 Years
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office; Word; Excel; PowerPoint; experience with software for data analysis and willing to learn other programs Required 1 Years
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Required 1 Years
  • Prior experience preparing detailed reports summarizing findings and recommendation. Required 1 Years
  • Prior experience providing training and education to professionals involved in child welfare and protection. Required 1 Years
  • Strong organizational skills. Required 1 Years
