Job Details
Hands Across The Water is a licensed, non-profit child placing agency. The Child Welfare Supervisor – Waiting Child Adoption/Licensing is responsible for the day-to-day operations of Hands Across The Water’s waiting child adoption, foster home certification, foster home recruitment, and kinship navigator programs as assigned and for ensuring compliance of said programs with the applicable provisions of all governing rules. This position may maintain a caseload of waiting child adoption and/or foster home licensing cases based on full-time status, number of staff supervised and program needs. The Child Welfare Supervisor – Waiting Child Adoption/Licensing is responsible for supervising the Waiting Adoption/Licensing Specialist, Licensing Specialists, Recruitment and Retention Specialist, and Kinship Navigator. This position manages any foster home complaints, special evaluations directly or as assigned. The Child Welfare Supervisor – Waiting Child Adoption/Licensing is also responsible to
develop, alongside the Recruitment and Retention Specialist, a plan for the recruitment and retention of the agency’s foster families, including overseeing, and participating in agency recruitment/retention activities. This position requires in-office, in-home, and outside of office work. The Child Welfare Supervisor – Waiting Child Adoption/Licensing will follow and uphold the agency’s Mission and Vision Statements.

The Child Welfare Supervisor shall hold a master's degree from an accredited college or university in a human behavioral science or education and 3 years of experience in a child welfare agency, a child caring institution, or in an agency performing a child welfare function OR a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a human behavioral science or education and 3 years of experience in a child welfare agency, a child caring institution, or in an agency performing a child welfare function.
Appropriate candidate for this position must have the ability to handle stress well, have the ability to be an active listener with good clinical observation and assessment skills, be flexible and able to handle change, be a team player yet able to work independently, able to multi-task, and maintain case responsibility and follow-through. Appropriate candidate must be able to supervise a staff of up to 5 workers as well as act as their mentor and positive role model. The Child Welfare Supervisor must demonstrate strong leadership skills, the ability to mediate conflict, and simultaneously advocate and problem-solve with their staff, program, and agency priorities in mind. Appropriate candidate must have the ability, experience, education, and training to perform the duties assigned.
