Children's Pastor

Kingdom One has partnered with Mission Viejo Christian Church, a discipleship-focused church in Mission Viejo, CA, to hire a Children’s Pastor for their team.

Vision for this role:

The primary purpose of this position is to lead the Children’s Ministry from the overall mission, vision, and values of Mission Viejo Christian Church. This Pastor will serve the church and partner with parents by developing, administering, and overseeing a comprehensive and expanding educational ministry program for children from infancy through Grade 5. This Pastor is responsible for leading the Early Childhood Director and enlisting, equipping, and shepherding the children’s ministry volunteers.

• Has a joyous calling to minister with children and families.

• Self-starter with strong managerial skills and competence in leading people.
• Has excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
• Is flexible, accurate, confidential with good follow-up skills.
• Is computer literate with the ability to learn new programs and applications quickly.
• Has attention to detail.
• Bachelor’s (preferred).
• Minimum four years of ministry experience, preferably in children’s ministry.
• Has a strong, growing relationship with Jesus Christ that is evident in personal and professional life.

What you’ll do: 

• Develop relationships with parents of children, coming alongside them and inspiring them in their role as their child’s primary teacher.
• Equip parents with biblical resources.
• Build a volunteer team.
• Train volunteers in compliance with all Children’s Ministry policies and procedures.
• Ensure that volunteers are appropriately screened with a completed Ministry Volunteer Application, LiveScan background and reference checks.
• Oversee new leader on-boarding and provide training consistent with MK best practices.
• Identify strong classroom leaders and develop some into skilled emcees and coaches.
• Communicates with Family Life Pastor and Early Childhood Director, Pastors and other key staff from MVCC, MVCS and MVKC.
• Create an engaging and age-appropriate Sunday morning experience for children.
• Responsible for weekly scheduling and communication with the volunteer team, ensuring that all classrooms maintain proper adult/child ratios.
• Prepare the MK space weekly to ensure that it is child-friendly, parent-friendly, clean, and safe.
• Oversee and confirm accuracy of attendance and registration process for new families at Sunday services.
• Meet regularly with the Family Life Pastor for encouragement, reporting, planning, and vision.
• Attend weekly staff meetings.
• Maintain ministry resources and storage areas.
• Assist, delegate, and oversee set-up and tear-down of ministry environments as needed.
• Assist in the planning, recruiting, directing, and leading of Vacation Bible School as necessary.
• Be a “cheerleader” for the values and strategies of Family Ministry.
