Summary
The Choir Coordinator will be responsible for selecting music, rehearsing with the choir and musicians, and directing music for the 5pm Sunday Life Teen Liturgy and providing the appropriate liturgical musical environment.
The Choir Coordinator must demonstrate proficiency with various instruments (specifically; piano, organ and/ or guitar), reading and teaching music, cantor/solo and choral singing, and planning music based on the lectionary, liturgical season and stylistic preference of the 5pm Mass community.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
· Selects and provides copies of appropriate liturgical music for each Mass
· Leads rehearsal of the 5pm Mass Choir
· Provides instrumental accompaniment for the choir at rehearsal and Mass
· Provides vocal instruction and correction for cantors and singers who participate in the choir
· Ensures access to lyrics and or music for the congregation to be able to participate in the musical expression at liturgies
· Assists Pastor and/ or Director of Music in securing other instrumentalists as substitute for their role if they are unavailable
Additional Responsibilities
· Available for scheduling for other seasonal liturgies (outside of the usual schedule) as requested by Pastor and/or Director of Music including but not limited to Holy Days of Obligation and Holidays
· Available for scheduling for optional liturgical needs (outside of the usual schedule) as requested by Pastor and/or Director of Music including but not limited to liturgies and parish worship events
Education and Experience
· High School degree or equivalent
· Ability to sing with accurate pitch and rhythm
· Ability to play various instruments (Piano/ Organ/ Guitar preferred)
· Basic understanding of Music Theory
· Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with all levels of staff and management
Preferred Additional
· Bachelor’s degree in Music, Liturgy and/ or 2 prior years’ experience
· Previous experience/ knowledge of Roman Catholic Liturgy including Lectionary and Sacramentary
· Bilingual (English/ Spanish) preferred
