Beckley, West Virginia with a 2022 population of 16,749, is nestled in the Appalachian Mountains, offering beautiful rolling hills and scenic landscapes. Located at the intersection of Interstates 64 and 77 and US 19, Beckley is a central hub for economic development, tourism, and transportation in the region.

The City Manager serves as the chief executive officer of the City government, responsible for the overall management, administration, and leadership of municipal operations. This pivotal role demands exceptional strategic thinking, robust managerial skills, and outstanding communication abilities. The City Manager will collaborate closely with the City Council, elected officials, department heads, and community stakeholders to ensure the efficient delivery of public services, the successful implementation of policies and initiatives, and the continuous well-being and advancement of the City.

Compensation and Benefits

The starting salary range for the City Manager position is $100,000 - $140,000, depending on qualifications and experience. The City of Beckley offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes health, dental, and vision insurance, life insurance, accidental death & dismemberment insurance, long-term disability, Health Reimbursement Account, vacation, sick leave, thirteen holidays, retirement plan participation, direct deposit, and a deferred compensation plan.

Desired Qualifications

The successful candidate will hold a bachelor's degree in public administration, business administration, urban planning, or a related field, and progressively responsible experience in municipal or city government, preferably in a leadership role, with a proven track record of successful administration and implementation of policies and programs. Additionally, the incumbent will possess experience working effectively with elected officials, diverse communities, and multi-disciplinary teams. Residency within Raleigh County is required within one year of hire date. City residency is preferred. Relocation expenses can be negotiated.
