We provide high quality traffic control safety services to construction job sites, such as Flagging traffic through a work site, setting up and monitoring Lane Closures to divert traffic, or Detouring traffic to reduce traffic congestion and prevent accidents. Position Summary:
City Rise Safety is seeking a dedicated, knowledgeable, and hands-on Mechanic I (Lead Mechanic) to join our growing Bay Area team. Based out of our Fremont, CA headquarters, this role plays a critical part in ensuring our fleet of gasoline and diesel vehicles—as well as specialized traffic control equipment—remains safe, reliable, and road-ready. As a Mechanic I, you will handle a range of responsibilities including inspections, diagnostics, repairs, preventative maintenance, and light fabrication. You will also support and guide service technicians and be a key contributor to vehicle safety, reliability, and compliance. Reports to the Fleet Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
Fleet Maintenance & Repairs
• Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on gasoline and diesel engine vehicles
• Conduct engine tune-ups, oil changes, brake services, tire rotations and replacements, wheel balancing, and filter changes
• Diagnose and repair electrical systems and perform safety inspections (40-point / 360°)
• Respond to emergency vehicle service calls as directed
• Maintain repair and maintenance records for vehicles and equipment
Fabrication & Equipment Design
• Design, fabricate, or replicate metal components and equipment
• Cut, grind, weld, and measure to precise specifications
Body Work & Painting
• Perform basic metal bodywork, body filler application, paint preparation, and painting of panels
• R&R body panels
Repair Orders & Scheduling
• Prioritize and complete work orders and maintenance requests efficiently
• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical issues independently
Inventory Management
• Track and manage parts and tool inventory
• Recommend supply orders and report discrepancies
Team Support & Training
• Provide guidance to co-workers and drivers as needed
• Serve as a technical resource and role model on the shop floor
Other
• Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned
Experience & Education:
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• 5 years of experience in vehicle diagnostics, repair, and maintenance
Experience working on:
Qualifications:
• Strong communication and documentation skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Attention to detail and safety-focused mindset
• Ability to multitask and prioritize repair orders
• Ability to read vehicle schematics and technical documents
• Strong attention to detail and ability to stay organized
• Familiarity with inventory systems and basic data entry
• Proficient with computer programs such as Microsoft Office, Salesforce, Excel, and Fleet Maintenance Software (Fleetio)
• Valid CDL with clean driving record + 3 years required
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong problem-solving skills and customer service mindset
• Experience driving medium-duty trucks and towing trailers
• Local travel required
• Flexible Schedule
Physical Requirements:
• Lifting up to 50-75lbs
• Sitting for extended periods while driving
• Standing for extended periods while on jobsites
