Job Description - Civil Clerk

Mission Statement

The Hancock County Sheriff's Office is seeking a detail-oriented, organized, and dependable individual to fill the position of Civil Process Clerical Staff.



Position Overview:


The Civil Clerk supports the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office by processing legal documents such as subpoenas, evictions, and court orders, while maintaining accurate records and coordinating service with deputies. This role also oversees Sheriff’s Sales, handling sale notices, legal ads, documentation, and post-sale processing. Strong attention to detail, organization, and communication with courts, attorneys, and the public are essential in this role.



Key Responsibilities:



  •  Accurately receive, review, and process incoming civil paperwork including subpoenas, summons, evictions, restraining orders, garnishments, and civil protection orders.

  • Performs all clerical tasks related to Sheriff sales including communication with appraisers and attorneys

  • Maintain accurate, confidential, and organized records and reports

  • Communicate professionally with law enforcement agencies, courts, and internal departments

  • Support the division with various clerical tasks such as data entry, document preparation, and phone communications


Qualifications:



  • High school diploma or GED required

  • Strong computer proficiency and data entry accuracy

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment

  • Previous clerical or law enforcement support experience is a plus, but not required

General Employment Requirements:



  • Must not have any felony convictions

  • Valid Ohio Driver’s License or State ID

  • Must pass a comprehensive background investigation, including social media review, law enforcement contact history, and reference checks

  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screening

  • No tattoos above collar; to include neck and face

  • No tattoos below the wrist line; to include the palms, fingers and tops of hands (Tattooed marital rings are permitted)

Starting Wage: (Per Labor Agreement)


$23.22 Per Hour


$25.80 After One year
