Basic Job Description:

Civil estimators calculate the total costs—including labor, materials, equipment, and overhead—required to build infrastructure projects like roads, bridges, and utilities before construction begins. They analyze blueprints, solicit subcontractor bids, and prepare competitive bids to help companies win contracts and maintain profitability.

Responsibilities:

Measuring project plans to determine quantity Takeoffs for the exact amount of raw materials needed.

Calculating the expenses for heavy machinery, labor hours, and site logistics specific to civil engineering.

Vendor Sourcing: Reaching out to suppliers and subcontractors to get accurate pricing for materials and specialized services.

Risk Assessment: Factoring in potential setbacks, historical weather conditions, and regulatory compliance that could impact the budget.

Qualifications/Requirements:

B.S. Civil Engineering or related construction discipline - preferred

7 to 10 years of experience

Knowledge of applicable Building Systems.

Possess technical knowledge of construction methods and terminology

Ability to read & interpret blueprints and produce concise Mechanical quantity take-offs utilizing company procedures and standards
