Civil Engineer Land Development

Job Summary

We are seeking a Land Development Engineer with strong hands-on AutoCAD experience in site civil engineering and land development projects. This onsite role supports surveyors and construction teams in delivering accurate, construction-ready engineering drawings for land development projects, including roads, drainage, utilities, grading, and site layout.

You will be involved in transforming raw land into fully developable sites by producing precise engineering plans and supporting field construction layout activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and produce detailed land development engineering drawings and plan sets
• Create grading plans, utility layouts, stormwater/drainage designs, and roadway/site layouts
• Support surveyors and field teams with construction layout and stakeout deliverables
• Provide design clarification and respond to field conditions during construction
• Ensure accuracy and consistency of engineering CAD drawings for site development projects
• Collaborate with civil engineers, survey teams, and construction personnel from design through execution

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in land development/site civil engineering
• Strong hands-on AutoCAD experience applied to land development deliverables
• Proven experience producing construction-ready drawings (grading, drainage, utilities, road design, site plans)
• Experience supporting surveyors and construction layout teams in the field
• Background in civil engineering, site development, municipal engineering, utilities, or surveying with a CAD design focus
• Ability to interpret engineering plans and translate concepts into precise technical drawings

Technical Skills

• AutoCAD (intermediate to advanced) – land development drafting and design production
• Civil engineering CAD workflows for site development projects
• Understanding of grading, drainage, utility design, and roadway geometry
• Construction layout support and survey coordination

Preferred Experience

• Experience in civil/site development consulting firms or land development projects
• Exposure to full project lifecycle: design through construction support
• Stable employment history with progressive responsibility in relevant roles

Work Environment & Location

• Fully onsite role in Lake Hopatcong, NJ (07849)
• Daily collaboration with survey and field construction teams
• Candidates should be within a 30–45 minute commute (up to ~60 minutes for strong matches)
• Nearby areas include: Dover, Denville, Parsippany, Rockaway, Roxbury, Mount Arlington, Hopatcong, Jefferson Township, and the surrounding Morris County regions
• NJ Transit access available via the Morristown/Montclair-Boonton line for commuting candidates
