Compensation: $130,000 – $200,000 base salary

HireNow Staffing is acting as a direct placement partner for an established civil litigation defense firm with offices in San Francisco, Walnut Creek, and Nevada. The firm is seeking a Civil Litigation Defense Associate to join its growing practice.

This role is ideal for a California-licensed associate who wants meaningful litigation responsibility, strong mentorship, and the ability to grow within a collaborative and stable team environment. Key Responsibilities

Candidates will be considered for interview based on demonstrated ability to contribute across all phases of civil defense litigation, including:

• Managing litigation matters from inception through resolution, with increasing ownership over time

• Handling court appearances, hearings, and procedural filings

• Drafting pleadings, motions, and written discovery

• Taking and defending depositions of parties, witnesses, and experts

• Participating in mediations, settlement negotiations, and dispute strategy

• Communicating directly with clients and providing consistent case updates

• Supporting trial preparation and working closely with partners on litigation strategy

This role offers hands-on litigation exposure with strong guidance and room to grow.

Required Qualifications (Non-Negotiable)

These qualifications are mandatory. Candidates who do not meet all requirements will not be considered.

• Active membership in the California State Bar, in good standing

• 1–6 years of civil litigation experience (associate-level only)

• Experience or exposure to civil litigation defense in a law firm setting

• Strong legal writing, research, and analytical skills

• Excellent communication and professionalism with clients and colleagues

• Must be based in California and able to work remotely within the state

• Stable resume with consistent tenure (no jumpy, short-term, or freelance-heavy backgrounds)

Preferred Qualifications (Standout Differentiators)

Candidates with the following will be viewed as especially strong:

• Deposition and motion practice experience

• Prior experience in a litigation defense environment

• Interest in trial work or courtroom advocacy

• Ability to manage multiple matters while maintaining high-quality work product
