Job Title: Claims Auditor Job
Location: Mount Pleasant Central School District, Thornwood, NY
Contract Term: 1 year, with additional one-year contracts to be extended at the sole discretion of the district
Hourly Rate: $60 to $125 per hour, depending on years of experience and qualifications.
Job Summary: The Claims Auditor is responsible for auditing all claims against the Mount Pleasant Central School District to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, district policies, and sound financial practices. The auditor will review expenditures, verify documentation, and report findings to the Board of Education.
Key Responsibilities:
● Review all purchase orders, invoices, and supporting documentation to ensure accuracy, compliance, and proper authorization.
● Verify that purchases comply with New York State laws, General Municipal Law, and the District's procurement policies.
● Ensure that payments are made only for properly approved and documented transactions.
● Check for duplicate payments, unauthorized purchases, and inconsistencies in financial records.
● Audit payroll and benefits payments as necessary.
● Certify vouchers and warrants before the release of funds.
● Report audit findings to the Board of Education and provide recommendations for process improvements.
● Maintain confidentiality and independence in the auditing process.
● Identify and report any signs of fraud, waste, or abuse to the Board of Education.
Qualifications & Experience:
● Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field.
● CPA or other relevant professional certification preferred.
● Experience in government or school district auditing is strongly preferred.
● Familiarity with New York State education laws and General Municipal Law.
● Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
● Ability to work independently while maintaining professional objectivity.
