Job Description - Claims - Associate Litigation Specialist

DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:



  • Review and manage, on behalf of the Company, assigned Claims Litigation files involving magistrate court lawsuits and lawsuits related to insurance policies providing minimum liability limits. 



  • Work closely with approved outside defense counsel, where appropriate, in devising and carrying out litigation strategies which achieve favorable outcomes for the Company and its policyholders.



  • Within authorized limits, negotiate settlements with claimants and/or their representatives.



  • Represent the Company in litigation, arbitration, mediation, and other legal type proceedings related to Claims Litigation files.



  • Coordinate efforts with claims managers as needed.  


 


OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES/REQUIREMENTS



  • Perform all other duties assigned.


QUALIFICATION, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: 



  1. Four year college degree and 7+ years relevant insurance claims experience required, but will accept 10+ years insurance litigation experience in lieu of college degree.

  2. Must have a valid Georgia Driver’s License and have a driving record that meets the underwriting requirements of the Company.

  3. Requires excellent telephone, public relations, oral/written communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.


OTHER SKILLS/ABILITIES:


Must be able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in a fast-paced office environment under pressure. Must be able to creatively think quickly and support positions as needed in negotiations. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form.


Must possess basic skills with computer; experience with Windows, word processing, and internet.


The employee must be able to organize and prioritize work; must have knowledge of office administration procedures and able to operate most standard office equipment. The employee must pay attention to detail in composing and proofing materials. Must be self-motivated with initiative and ability to make decisions and accept responsibility. Must be flexible to respond to unexpected situations that require immediate attention.

Specific vision requirements by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
