*This position is in office full time, 5 days a week and does not have an option for hybrid or remote due to the nature of the role.*

Umialik Insurance Company, a member of the Western National Insurance Group, is seeking a Claims Team Lead. 

The individual in this role will have the opportunity to oversee the administration of claims activities for assigned small units to meet expected service levels with policyholders and agents and maintain appropriate records / documentation. They will provide daily management to their assigned team through staffing, performance management, training, and development. Lastly, they will maintain technical subject matter responsibility and the handling of an active claim load.

What are the responsibilities and opportunities of this role?

  • Develops and implements claim strategies and recommendations for handling teams’ claims.
  • Responsible for ongoing implementation of the core business attributes (Empowerment, Accountability, and Connectiveness).
  • Uses established practices, processes, and procedures for claims handling in accordance with best practices.
  • Selects, coaches, develops, and retains staff to achieve company, departmental, and individual goals.
  • Assists with the development of team member competencies and expertise.
  • Participates in initiatives to develop and improve processes and policies.
  • Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Makes decisions guided by specific policies and objectives.
  • Assists in formulating recommendations on difficult problems.
  • Interprets and executes policies and guidelines. 
  • Utilizes knowledge, experience, and available resources to find solutions.
  • Evaluates and participates in the development of improvements and helps implement changes.
  • Applies knowledge and experience to help solve problems of broad scope and complexity.
  • Identifies and analyzes patterns from partial and / or conflicting data to find solutions.
  • Consistently acts according to our customer experience standards, including responding quickly, maintaining a positive attitude, building rapport, demonstrating empathy, managing the customer’s expectations, using the proper communication channel for the situation, and taking ownership to ensure the customer’s issue is resolved.

Requirements

What are the must-have qualifications for a candidate?

  • Strong claims processing and case management experience.
  • Experience working with all levels of claims complexity across all lines of coverage and / or line predominate in unit.
  • Ability to recognize needs of unit and own responsibility relative to other areas / customers.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Strong judgment and conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong organizational and facilitation skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in business or other related field of study; equivalent experience in lieu of degree acceptable.
  • Related insurance designations preferred, but not required (e.g., CPCU, AINS).
  • Proficient use of various core systems, office and computer equipment, and software packages.

Compensation overview

The full hiring range for this role is $85,470 – $117,579, annually. However, the base pay offered may vary depending on the job-related knowledge, skills, credentials, and experience of each candidate as well as other factors such as the scope and location of the role. Candidates looking for compensation outside of the posted range are encouraged to apply and will be considered based on their individual qualifications and/or may be considered for other positions.
