Compensation: Salary range $48,000 - $55,000

Under the general supervision of the Deputy Director of Handley Regional Library (HRL), assumes responsibility for the day-to- day operations of a small library branch. Examines operations on a daily basis to ensure that all resources are managed as effectively as possible.
Major Duties
Supervisory Controls
Works independently under the supervision of the Deputy Director. The Deputy Director indicates general responsibilities, establishes priorities, and monitors progress in meeting overall goals and objectives. Work is reviewed by observation and through regular conferences for evaluating the degree of success achieved in attaining goals and objectives. Formal performance evaluations are conducted annually. The Library Branch Manager exercises direct supervision over volunteers and branch staff. Meets with the branch advisory council that makes recommendations for programs and services to the Director and Branch Manager.
Guidelines
Policies and procedures of the Handley Regional Library, the five-year Plan of Handley Regional Library, and policies and procedures of local government bodies. Circulation procedures manual and integrated library system manuals.
Complexity
Work is routine to complex in nature, requiring technical skills and abilities, as well as the use of independent judgment, interpretation, discretion and tact.
Scope and Effect
Work performed is essential to the smooth operation of the Branch Library and assures a positive public impression of the Library and effective administration of the Library's circulating collections.
Personal Contacts
Contacts are with co-workers to share information and coordinate library services; with volunteers, to train, motivate, and supervise; with City and County personnel in other departments; with building contractors to arrange work to be done; and with library patrons in person and on the telephone.
Physical Demands
Ability to lift 25 pounds of books or other library materials and furniture, the ability to fully load and move library book truck from book drops into branch. The ability to walk throughout the library many times a day, to use stepladders, and to frequently stoop, reach, and bend. The position requires standing and sitting at public service desks, working with the public and reading computer screens. Must have means to go back and forth between branch and other library locations several times per month.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
Knowledge of library principles, methods, materials and practices, including knowledge of library functions and organization. Ability to organize and coordinate branch operations and establish priorities, to train and supervise staff and volunteers. Knowledge of popular and current reading interests. Ability to operate library computer systems.
Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with co-workers and library patrons, to be flexible. Good communication skills with both children and adults. Good organizational and clerical skills. Ability to maintain accurate records and write reports; ability to work independently; ability to work quickly, accurately, and efficiently; ability to exercise initiative, tact, leadership, and independent judgment.
