The Massanutten Family Adventure Park employs enthusiastic, safety-conscious, and experienced Ridge Climbing & Rappelling Guides to lead guests through high-elevation ridge hikes and rappelling experiences. As key members of our outdoor adventure team, they will be responsible for delivering unforgettable, safe, and educational experiences in rugged natural environments. Responsibilities include guiding individuals and groups across exposed ridgelines and vertical drops and ensuring guest safety while fostering confidence, excitement, and environmental appreciation. On days with no guided tours, guides will work in the adventure park on the rope course, zip line, or other attractions.
Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage group dynamics effectively
At least 18 years old
Comfortable working in an outdoor environment on rugged terrain with exposure to sun, wind, rain, and temperature fluctuations
Previous experience guiding in high-angle environments (ridge hiking, climbing, or rappelling)
Proficiency in rope systems, knots, and belaying techniques
Comfortable working at height and in remote outdoor environments for extended periods
Preferred
Certified in First Aid & CPR, Professional climbing training/certification (AMGA, PCIA, or other qualified body)

Every day except Thursday (tour days will vary)

Varies seasonally, including evenings
Core Responsibilities
Lead and supervise guests on ridge climbing and rappelling excursions, ranging from beginner to advanced levels
Provide facilitated experiences across multiple adventure park attractions, splitting time between ridge tours and adventure park activities
Conduct safety briefings, equipment checks, and technique demonstrations before each activity
Fit, inspect, and maintain all climbing and rappelling equipment (harnesses, ropes, helmets, anchors, etc.)
Monitor and assess environmental and weather conditions to make real-time safety decisions
Assist with the setup and teardown of rappelling stations, anchor systems, and belay lines
Provide instruction on basic climbing and rappelling techniques, including proper body positioning, belaying, and communication
Foster a positive, inclusive, and empowering experience for guests of all ages and abilities
Respond calmly and competently to emergencies, including performing basic first aid and executing evacuation protocols when needed
Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety of all activity zones and gear storage areas
